Do you want RTS set in space (Like Sins of a Solar Empire) or an actual RTS Space Sim (Like the X series, where its a space sim in real time with strategic elements)?

Sim was just a weird word to add to the end of what you wanted... but Sins of a Solar Empire is a good start I think.

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada. The online community has shrunk quite a bit though and with the progression system...you're basically screwed vs higher level people, even though you get bonus "renown" (ability to field more ships than your opponent) because they have more upgraded ships than you will have. Good game but definitely not competitive.

I suggest looking up yourtube videos and if you like what you see. buy it for $20 or less. Don't pay full price even though it's cheaper than most other games.

I was really trying to like Battlefleet Gothic: Armada but it's not like homeworld. Unless I am mistaken, there are at most 3-6 ships per team on the field at one time. But yeah, thats what I was looking for with a ton more ships at your disposal.
I am really liking Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak but no space combat. But far better mechanics imo.

What I had an itch for, don't laugh, was a real star swarm game. But that's just a mantle demo frown.gif.

Edit:

Oh, I am looking for a RTS sigle player space sim.

Homeworld with mods
Star Ruler 2
Stellaris
Are some of what I'm seeing so far with Stellaris being the most recent i think.

Pass on Stellaris IMO.

My review of it is here: http://www.modmic.com/blogs/news/172302151-stellaris-review

Basically it totally falls apart mid-late - end game. Two patches in and it appears hopeless to see any improvement in that front.

That said, Crusader Kings 2 or Europa Universalis 4 are excellent and similar, just not set in space. CK2 focuses a lot more on managing "relationships" within your kingdom where EU focuses more on conquest.

I've got over 100 hours into both.

between CK2 and EU4 i'd definitely recommend EU4.

CK2 AI is hard coded to love incest way too much.... basically your nephew duke doushe bag will always marry his sister baroness inbreed if it means he can get another piece of land in his effort to rise up and rebel against your kingdom at the worst time possible... and your genius son will ALWAYS be an impotent gay guy who ALWAYS die before you so your idiot 2nd son can take over your throne.

IMO the AI in CK2 is written in a way that is far too unrealistic and you end up fighting against the system so much that it becomes completely unenjoyable.

Ironically I don't disagree with your post that EU4 is better, but the douchbag incest loving baron you describe rising up at the worst possible time is exactly why I like it. Not the incest part, historically accurate, but the fact that crap goes SO horribly wrong sometimes. I once had my amazing prince die of disease, leaving a crappy would be king, and before I could "fix" the problem (IE: Murder the kid) my CURRENT king died while having sex with his mistress...

Then war was declared and my so called allies decided not to honor their agreement...

Anyway, good times biggrin.gif
