[Build Log] Lian Li PC-O6SX - Page 6

Maximus VII Gene

The riser is an X1 to X16; so it goes Motherboard > Riser > Lian Li extension > card

In order to utilize the bracket for the case I need that Lian Li extension.. I don't like the idea of PCIE card just hanging by a single screw.

that motherboard's x4 is open, so the lian li x16 extension should just plug straight in

The lian-li extension is x16 to x16. I should have the parts by end of week so I'll put some pics in.

And btw - your build is what made me snag the stuff for mine. smile.gif

It should not matter if it is 16x length.

The vii gene's 4x slot is designed to take upto x16 length, it's just that it will run that card at only x4 (or less) and have pins dangling with no contact.

In theory, it should work with extensions like the lian li ones, it does not hurt to try since you are set out in buying 3 of them anyways

I think I'm confused.. Isn't the physical size of the lian-li part x16? It won't actually fit into the x4 slot. I dunno. I'll show you what it all looks like in a few days thumb.gif

The 4x slot has a cut out to allow the length of 16x cards to fit. It will just run at the lower speed of 4x instead of 16x. In this case, it wouldn't matter since you're connecting a wifi and sound card, correct?

Sexpot explained it better than me.

the 16x lian li part will physically fit into the x4 motherboard slot, just not all pins will have contact. Might work, might not, no tried this myself. If it does work, then it is prettier than having that Green PCB riser card.

Since I can't pull my mobo yet I found this high res pic just to take a look at it and you're right. I had no idea that the back of that slot had an opening. Learn something new every day! Awesome-sauce! The Silverstone AIO and the Hue+ are here already; just waiting on case and cables. Should be tomorrow!

Oh, and I just saw sexpot's post. Wow.. I feel pretty dumb. frown.gif I should've seen that earlier. Thank you, both of you!
