Good day to you all, Enthusiasts, Builders, and PC Lovers!

I'm definitely a new member in the community, though I've been a ghostly stalker of the forums for ages. thumb.gif Now I've created an account so that I can log my first water cooling build publicly. Follow along if you'd like, and feel free to comment regarding anything - constructive criticism, tips/tricks, why-are-you-doing-this-and-not-that's, I'll take it all into consideration and appreciate anything you can contribute to the end result!

The current build, Chronos-Fire 1.0, listed and pictured:
Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite, Black, Cut out window (DIY)
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX
Motherboard: ASRock 99M Extreme4 Micro ATX LGA 2011-3
CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor – OC Goal: 4.0GHz
CPU Cooler: Silverstone TD03-LITE
Memory: Crucial 2x8GB DDR4-2133
GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 390 8GB Nitro Video Card
WiFi: ASUS PCE-AC68 PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/c/n/ac
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 SSD (under GPU), 2x 320GB HDD (2nd not pictured)

Changes to be made:
Case: Remove Hard Drive Cage, cut out part of 5.25" bay for front radiator to fit
CPU Cooler: Remove tongue.gif
GPU: Replace with GTX 1080 Founders Edition biggrin.gif
Storage: Remove 2x320GB HHD if no space, add SSD to bottom of case if no space inside.
Cooling: Install Custom Water Cooling Loop wheee.gif

I purchased all my goods, hold the Koolance PMP-300 pump, from Newegg (most sold & shipped by ModMyMods, who has great customer service - one tube was cracked at the end on arrival and a free replacement is already on the way). I haven't seen a plethora of reviews for the company (Barrow) that manufactured the fittings/tubing I purchased, however, those that I have seen had given good reviews on the quality (which I can personally attest to and pictures will prove soon enough).

Water Cooling Supplies:
Radiators: Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper – 1x120 & 1x240
Reservoir: Alphacool Eisbecher 150mm Reservoir
Pump: Koolance PMP-300
CPU Block: Phobya CPU-Cooler UC-2 LT – Silver Nickel Plated Edition
GPU Block: Aquacomputer Kryographics GTX 1080 Black & Nickel Edition
Fittings: Barrow G¼“ Multi-Link Adapter for 12mm OD Rigid Tube
Tube: Barrow 12/10mm Acrylic Rigid HardTube (500mm x 8 because this is my first time rigid bending)
Misc. Adapters: Barrow G¼“ Mini Ball Valve Fitting | G¼“ 10mm M2M Adapter Fittings | G¼“ 3-Way | G¼“ Plug
Coolant: Thermaltake CL-W020-OS00RE-A DIY Red Coolant

Going to use the following order: Pump->240 Rad->CPU->120 Rad->GPU->Res. I know that having a Rad between the CPU and GPU typically won't make a difference "once the liquid in a system reaches an average temperature" or whatever I was reading about the other day... however, on top of it being aesthetically appreciable, would just rather have that little kiss of cold get to my GPU than to go Rad->Rad->CPU->GPU.proof.gif

I'll consider this my introduction to the whole build, as this is going to be constructed starting today!

Update 1

When I got home on Tuesday (the day I started the build log), I had finally received the GTX 1080 FE and the Thermaltake Fluid. The build could actually begin for me biggrin.gif

Here is a closeup of the Barrow fittings/adapters. I like 'em! upsidedwnsmiley.gif

And here are the GTX 1080 next to it's new cooling block, before being attached (and after, next to the CPU with its block).

Now for some hard-modding... Drilled out the rivets holding the hard drive cage (difficult in tight spaces) madsmiley.png ...
Then ran out of battery for Tuesday on the dremel (which I didn't charge, like a dingus).

The next day, I had to cut out some of the bottom-front of the 5.25" bay so that the 240mm rad could poke through from below.

As I was working in this area, I happily discovered a 2.5" hard drive bay on the bottom (never discussed in reviews on this case) biggrin.gif

After giving the case a good wipe-down from all those bits of metal and such, I reinstalled all the components.

Today when I get home, that picture says it all thumb.gif

UPDATE 2

Thursday... A day I have been slightly dreading while dreaming about. Well, once I reassured myself of the orientation and such, I began bending my first bend (from the res to the pump)... and broke it like twice before I could get it right graduated.gif

*Sidenote about Barrow Fittings: I was able to figure out that the Barrow fittings actually take the acrylic tube into the fitting itself, creating an extra seal on the inside before screwing on the rubber seal. I had to make sure to account for this extra distance, although I really like the rigidity in the design; makes for a very strong seal.*

After (triumphantly) affixing the first fitting, I jumped into the next fitting, from the 120mm Rad to the GPU. Got that one done in about 30 minutes (as opposed to my first-ever bend, which took about 2 hours) applaud.gif

Only 4 more pieces and I'll be in business, hopefully by this weekend I'll be posting a completed build!lmaosmiley.gif

UPDATE 3

As I'm writing this I couldn't be happier, however, it was a patience-testing endeavor for anyone who wishes to go acrylic, on their first build, with no assistance from one with experience (just the online tips). Definitely a challenge, albeit one that I could conquer.

Battle wounds (not pictured) include: one blister and some extremely dried/cut-up fingers from heating tube and tightening knurled fittings. I learned from my carelessness and hope to pass on what I learned to save my fingers this began to occur:

TIP: MOISTURIZE YOUR HANDS. If you plan on bending acrylic and don't plan on using gloves, you may get your fingers in the heat. This will dry them and make it more painful/difficult to work.

Pictures! camera.gif I got one snapped of me jamming while working (prior to taking off my gloves) headphone.gif

After affixing the 120mm Rad to the CPU with the most complex fitting in my build, I was convinced I could finish with ease and progressed quickly without stopping for photos doh.gif

With the last of the acrylic bends done, and all the pieces connected, leak testing quickly began. While filling with dist. water, I had 2 leaks:

  1. CPU block (top port) was not properly tightened and leaked a bit, and then I had another leak on the GPU block's plug since the stock, and
  2. GPU plug wasn't correctly screwing in w/o a wrench.

After correcting the leaks and bleeding the air to replicate a full-pressure scenario, I let the pump run at full power (external fan controller) for one hour. After being convinced of my work, it was time to fill the rig with its blood.

IT'S..... ALIIIIVEEEE!!!

In an effort to further pamper the Chronos-Fire 2.0's aesthetics and capabilities, I plan on:
  • Widening the acrylic window I made previous to this revision,
  • Purchasing and Installing a 5.25" to 3.5" bay adapter for a dual 2.5" SSD/HDD mount I have, and
  • Purchasing and Connecting an external 3.5" eSATA HDD bay (if necessary).

I feel like if I can do this, anyone can! teaching.gif I'm just an aspiring engineer; I'm not even done with college and probably could've accomplished this years ago, given the funds. Even so, I followed a lot of advice found on countless posts here, as well as YouTube videos, to incubate some knowledge prior to going through with this experience alone.

UPDATE 4

My PC has been running for a little more than a week now, amazingly might I add thumb.gif

I ended up making a stand for my PC and expanding the size of the window, however, I'm still not quite satisfied with how much I can see... I wanted to see more of the bottom/front radiator. But I'll see whether expanding the window again is worth the effort/supplies.

Tonight, I'll be adding a few strips of WS2801s inside to create some aesthetic lighting, and truly determine if window expansion would be necessary. More pics will come soon, hopefully I'll be overclocking too.
