Overclocking software magic

Overclocking software magic
Where does the magic happen? When I use a program like MSI Afterburner and/or EVGA precision it seems the changes are “saved”. Even if I don’t select for the program to start on startup, the changes are still in effect. Are these overclocking programs changing a config file or a bios file? I apologize for my ignorance in advance. Thanks

I'm no expert, but maybe I can help...

What GPU do you have?

What overclocking program(s) do you have installed?

What program are you using to verify that your GPU is still overclocked when you restart?

Afterburner and PrecisionX both save overclock settings to profiles, but they don't have the ability to change the BIOS on your GPU. The profiles shouldn't be active unless the program is running, but if the program is running in the background or you open it to see your GPU settings it will automatically apply the last profile you created.
