Absolutely true. That's why we need mainstream OLED, so it can do everything plasma did AND MORE.

Gotta be crazy to pay that much for a non-OLED TV.

Gotta be crazy to pay that much for any TV.

Value will go down fast.

They've already done TV shootouts with a Kuro next to OLED and highed LCDs. OLED and all concurrent highend LCD destroys the Kuro in contrast, black level, colors, and brightness. Only thing the Kuro did better was motion, but its IQ looked very dull next to the other beasts.

Having both a Kuro and OLED, the Kuro is superior in viewing angles. Also, it's better with image retention than my LG. Don't get me wrong, I like the OLED overall, but there hasn't been a perfect display created yet.

Thousands of dollars for such TV-s, and still NONE of them packs any good motion resolution. The same old fake interpolation everywhere... even OLED's still dont have an impulse mode, guess that would rule out LG-s own IPS products too fast.
I just laugh at "normal" LCD TV-s nowadays. Its a sad thing, that anyone who has to buy a TV/monitor today, has to go with a crappy lcd (whatever marketing bs it is called) , or the somewhat overhyped and way overpriced OLED. I will stick with my pana plasmas for some years i think. I just hope none of them breaks down, until proper OLED or something else arrives.

Kuro's tech was integrated by panasonic already in the G20 line back then, and was way surpassed in almost all later panasonics. And old PDP's also tend to loose black depth, and brightness (therefore also color richness) over many years. I think it isnt a correct comparsion in any way, to put a 10+ years old Kuro there. I wonder if anyone did the same, with some younger pana VT60. I think that the color richness may still be surpassed by a few % by an oled (of course not for the eye, maybe for the calibration device), because it can reach higher brightness, but in any other way the plasma will still rule image quality and motion resolution.

has OLED TV come a fair ways in the last 2 years? that's the last time the f8500 plasma was neck to neck and tied with the best OLED.

From my understanding the best Kuro Elites blacks are on-par with zt/vt60 Pannys which are superior to F8500....so pretty amazing for panels from a decade ago.

There's no contest in zero black levels of OLED...but I haven't viewed OLED TV in dark rooms at proper distances to judge for their color repro and motion.

I hope I can find a way to downsample UHD Blu-ray to my F8500...then I can live with the buzzing, dirty screen door until 8K becomes affordable tongue.gif Honestly I dont' find plasma motion impressive at all (maybe it's just my unit or Im sensitive) but what I believe is phosphor trails in 24p movies can be distracting...I haven't done enough research if there's a setting I can do to eliminate it.

Still, I got the F5300b which apparently uses a panel that is very similar to the F8500 but not as bright and without the anti-reflection filter. Still pretty happy with the price I paid biggrin.gif

if someone give half a rat's butt about IQ they should have their unit calibrated...so I wanna say that's a huge chunk of people buying TV over $1000 won't really find it a "luxury" and should really be a necessity

Plasma got nothing on OLED. It's like comparing VHS and Bluray. Plasma is dead and gone.
