[Engadget] Sony's high-end 4K HDR LCD TVs start at $7,000 - Page 10

I've owned the EC9300 and now C6, any display I purchased here on out will be an OLED. It is amazing that some people still buy these high end LCDs that cost almost as much as an OLED or more in some cases.

As far as this display matching/surpassing an OLED, I don't believe it for a second. With cherry picked content and a controlled environment Sony surely fooled some journalists. I'm sure actual reviews will tell a different story. Value Electronics recently held a TV shootout and the 2016 OLED destroyed the other flagship LCDs there in every category aside from brightness.

Also this kind of stuff (Full Array Backlighting) has always been around, the problem is with so many zones it gets prohibitively expensive. It's a dead end, coupled with the inherent limitations of LCD that are still going to be there no matter what like subpar viewing angles. OLED on the other hand will continue to improve and get cheaper.

My guess by 2019 or perhaps earlier, if there isn't another answer to OLED tech by then, you will see companies like Sony start buying OLED panels from LG. Any company that sticks with LCD is doomed. LG has said it will eventually be cheaper than LCD to produce, once volumes are high enough.

No?

And yet you dare to have opinions about it?

Just like the guy you're trying to Strawman in to another useless Ad Hominem?

Damn son, you got him!

I have opinions yes.

I just state mere fact that OLED don't have more than 300 motion resolution.

And you think that I said OLED is bad?
That's some really good reading comprehension on your part.

I know OLED fans like to change that but it's same old 300 lines.
Cannot go higher.

Also 10 year old plasma TV have better picture then any LCD out there.
And lot of money thrown in LCD development unlike zero money in plasma development last year's.

But,plasma was relatively cheap...

What're you referring to with "300 lines"? LG use to make native 600hz LED panels [not "true motion rate" post processing garbage], but nothing was using over 60hz[and no display input supports it] and no one was buying the marketing garbage, So it would still need to add 10fake frames per frame, which is juddry artifacting garbage
Plasma have great picture, their issue as for why they died is because they use too high of a wattage; a plasma panel at 60 inches uses up to 600 watts depending on the panel, LCD/LED however was using <120w
So an extra $15 a month in electricity if it's on 10 hours a day

The reason plasma die is marketing which constantly brainwash people to buy inferior tech like LCD.

Consumption gone down over years and would come close to LCD.
But,LCD mafia manage to sell their inferior tech.

For 300 lines motion resolution, not a single LCD or OLED cannot have more than 300 native and 300 is bad when you watch anything aside static images.
Better motion resolution equals more detail TV will retain in faster motion.

LCD must cheat to have half of motion resolution which plasma natively have and in that case movie on LCD looks like soap opera.

Vast percent of people won't see plasma flickering. It can be seen with peripheral vision when panel is in white color.
Plasma have 1080 motion resolution native.

Thus, plasma have much clearer motion 10 years ago then LCD/OLED today.
And some people dare to say it's inferior.
Marketing brainwash at its best.

Furthermore, people spend thousands on screen with bad motion resolution.
People buying TV by watching promo materials in shops.redface.gif
ETC...
OLED needs few more years to mature. Currently they are abnormally overpriced.

Here is one example of £8000 OLED

Despite boasting insanely fast response time, the current generation of OLED televisions are driven by sample-and-hold method, so their motion characteristics resemble LCDs instead of impulse-type displays such as CRTs and plasmas. Indeed, running our reference motion resolution test sequence (namely the horizontally scrolling line chart in Chapter 31 of the FPD Benchmark Software disc) on the 55EA980W yielded a motion resolution of 300, the same result usually observed on vanilla LCD panels unaided by motion-enhancing technologies.

LINK

8000 pounds for panel with 300 motion resolution.
LOL.

If the 1080 MR measurement of Samsung's OLED with BFI is, according to you, "useless pictures", then your "300 MR" is useless buzzwords, too.

Oh, wait, i forgot, BFI is heavy processing. Much harder to implement than sub-field refreshes.

LOL, I can't believe what I'm reading here. Anybody supporting plasma over OLED needs to get their eyes examined. laughingsmiley.gif

Read before babbling.

I merely said that today best OLED don't have more than 300 MR.
plasma have 1080 natively 10 years ago.
If you cannot comprehend that fact I cannot help you.

OLED need time to mature.
