They would look and perform somewhat better at the cost of severely restricted modding support. If they can somehow fix that, I'd be all for it. id tech 6 uses megatextures just like its predecessor.

Not to mention that they would require a significant amount of disk space. Doom 4 already requires 55 GB and with all maps combined it probably has no where near the same surface area covered by Skyrim or Fallout 4.

Also it still has plenty of baked-in shadows which would probably not play well with a day-night cycle where the light direction, color and intensity change.
