Personally i tend to use the fan attached to the stock heatsink/cooler that comes with my chip. In larger cases with adeqaute cable management space they fit nicely and keep the air behind the back panel from stagnating and getting too hot. You can also find smaller ones on new egg or even a local electronics store. Ive gotten tiny 20mm ones from radio shack in the past. Nothing special about them. They just have to be small enough to fit behind your socket and have wiring that can plug into your board.

Double sided tape or even zip ties work for holding them in place. Just make sure they have an air gap on either side so they can move air around effeciently.

I use 40mm x 10mm fans. But as gapottberg says, you can use anything that will fit.
