Judging by my old 980 , coming from Software OC to 15000 Firestrike and BIOS OC to 17000 , i'd say wait a little , hopefully Bios Tools are in the making thumb.gif

That stuff just has too much resistance IMO. Went ahead and ordered Liquid Ultra.

The stock resistance is 0.005 ohms, which is already extremely low. All of those conductive glue things I have seen have pretty high resistance and are really just barely conductive, way more than 5 milliohms.. Liquid metal even has pretty high resistance for being a metal, nowhere close to copper wire, but it is low enough to get to around 3 milliohm which is perfect for doing this mod.

If the Z170 platform has a total of 20 PCIe lanes then what happens when my GPU takes up 16 of those lanes? GPUz confirms it's running at PCIe Gen3 x16.

See the original Z170 article on anandtech: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9485/intel-skylake-z170-motherboards-asrock-asus-gigabyte-msi-ecs-evga-supermicro

How could my SATA and Ethernet ports still be functioning if the PCH only has 4 PCIe lanes itself and the other 16 just routed from the CPU?

EDIT: Of course if you want to run Quad SLI or benefit from 16x/16x Dual SLI then X99 it is, running graphics cards off of the PCH isn't an option as far as I'm aware.

See this here from the article:

The processor is connected to the chipset by the four-lane DMI 3.0 interface. The DMI 3.0 protocol is an upgrade over the previous generation which used DMI 2.0 – this upgrade boosts the speed from 5.0 GT/s to 8.0 GT/s
Notice the speeds? DMI2 was 5GT/s and DMI3 is 8GT/s? Same speeds as PCI-E 2.0 and 3.0 are... A DMI link has always been pretty much the same as PCI-E is. The CPU is connected to the PCH with four DMI3 lanes, or in other words is connected with 4x PCI-E 3.0 lanes. The stuff the PCH has are talked about as "ports". Z170 has 26 ports it can use for I/O on the board, but is all routes back into 4 PCI-E lanes between the PCH and CPU, that is where the big bottleneck is. Think of the PCH as a sort of PLX chip for I/O.

These cards will always have a voltage problem, whether we get unlocked voltage or not. I really hope we do not get unlocked voltage or Nvidia will just lock things down harder next time from all the RMAs. The VRMs are absolute crap on this card and I wouldn't even dare to raise voltage more than 0.05v. The one cool thing about the VRMs is that they have no real de-rating with temp. They can run the same at 25c as 100c. The problem is their rating, is very very low.

You think two 1080s are still better? I'm a bit worried about the SLI...

It really depends on the game. two 1080's have more raw horsepower but if the game doesn't work well with SLI then it won't matter. TXP would give you less theoretical performance but guarantees it for any game you may play.

To use myself as an example, I've been playing a single multiplayer game for quite a while and will do so for a while longer but it doesn't support SLI at all so the TXP is a product I desire...
