This thing is shashing against that 120% power limit in games. Has anybody tried the power mod with CLU yet? I'm tempted to try now but it's probably best to just wait for the waterblock to come in.

To avoid any questions regarding eligibility biggrin.gif

I have one question to you guys, since I'm a bit new to the wondrous world of overclocking. I hope you don't mind, since it's related to the card itself. With my new Titan X, I decided to build a new PC and chose i5-6600k.

I thought to myself, that the difference between i5 and current i7s is not that big and I will go for Kaby Lake or Zen, when it comes out instead of spending more for i7.

So the question is will my i5 work well with Titan X (or at least well enough). I'm sure some of you are using this chip, so does it work well for you?
Or should I go with the i7.

Sorry, if I ask in the wrong place but a single 'yes' or 'no' will be fine.

Congrats. You really need to tell us what you're trying to do though. Are you trying to game at 1080p 60hz? Then yes, you'll be fine abit overkill though.

Are you trying to create new world records in benchmarks? Then no, you aren't good as you'll need more cores and higher clock speeds to break world records.

Again, what are you trying to accomplish?

I'm too lazy to find & link the actual statistic benchmarks out there but it's on the internet somewhere.

6600k is actually better for gaming than the 6700k for 3 reasons:

-Hyperthreading actually decreases gaming performance by 1-5% because you're essentially splitting 1 core into 2 threads. You get more performance out of 1 core working at 99% versus 2 threads working at 99%. Even if I had a CPU with hyperthreading, i'd disable it (think you save 1-2C on well on temperatures)
-The 6600k will typically overclock faster than the 6700k. Yes the 6700k is clocked higher out of the box but it's more limited to overclock.
-The 6600k costs cheaper. Put that money into a Titan X Pascal SLI or something instead.

You can buy pre-overlocked CPU's from Siliconlottery.com. Notice they have 5.0Ghz 6600k's for sale but can't get the 6700k's past 4.9Ghz.

General rule of thumb more speed > cores. Since there's going to be people in here who cannot truly fathom their $1700 6950x or their $1000 5960k is being outbeat by a $250 processor, here is just a recent example using Ashes of Singularity which is one of the most CPU intensive DX12 games out there at the moment:

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2016/06/24/dx11_vs_dx12_intel_6700k_6950x_framerate_scaling/3#.V6pRNygrLAQ

FYI: I'm actually pro x99 platform. I came from a 4.7ghz 5960x. Nvidia killed that for me when they announced only 2 way SLI is supported in games now thus my Z170 platform "downgrade" (more like an upgrade IMO for games)

FYI 2: I think the only game in the world right now that actually uses more than 4 cores 'properly' would be Crytek games. You'll see people defending games like Crysis 3 up and down. I played that game once a year ago, beat it in several hours, and never played it again.

So I just repasted my cards.TIM looked fairly decent, maybe dropped my temps 2-4C max. I am using an older tube of GC extreme so not as good as Grizzly.

Here's something I discovered though, the card that boost higher ( 1860 ) seems to actually clock worse than the card that only boosts to 1843.. had artifacts at the same OC settings. Will need to re-test.

Here's some logs of the 2nd card using GPUZ after repaste running 3Dmark DX12 Timespy. Card is in the 2nd 16x slot on RVE10 so may have a bit of perf loss if any. ( first slot disabled )

GTXTitanX2-208-475-120TDP.txt 72k .txt file

GTXTitanX2-195-475-120TDP.txt 74k .txt file

Didn't get to refuse shipment from Fedex, since the guy didn't ring bell, so I guess I'll be testing the 3rd card out lol, fingers crossed it's in the same boost bin as the best card, or even better.

Now I just need to chase JPM down in 3Dmark =)

Okay so since my 3rd and 4th Titan XP are installed in the X79 rig, there are some weird things going on.

The performance seems to be quite crappy @ 1440P - I understand these cards are ridiculous overkill for that resolution but @ 144Hz, it should be utilized pretty well.

In my X99 rig, I'm getting ~90 FPS in GTA V @ 5K. In the X79 rig, I'm getting 70 FPS @ 1440P. The main difference is that the X99 rig has the 6950X @ 4.30Ghz whereas the X79 rig has the 3970X @ 4.50Ghz. The CPU alone can't make THAT big of a difference - please tell me that that is not the case.

Games like BF4 are fine - pegged at 144FPS and the SLI OC on the X79 rig is +200 / +650.

Haven't tested other games yet but will do some more benchmarks on it.

Ivy to Haswell/Broadwell did have a pretty nice IPC jump, plus those extra cores.

Hmm.. but that is a MASSIVE difference in performance. 1440P --> 5K is a 11 million pixel jump and same cards perform 20FPS better than @ 1440P?!?

Will be testing some RoTR in DX12...
