Well, as I understand it (and I could be wrong) at least the shunt mod will allow us to take full advantage of the limited voltage control we currently have.

Right now, you can turn up the voltage to +100% which gives you at most 1.0925V but in most cases you are going to hit the +120% power limit WAY before you take full advantage of that voltage boost.

Shunt mod allows you to trick the card into thinking it's using less power, and thus circumventing the power limit, so - in theory - with sufficient cooling you will at least be able to take full advantage of the 1.0925v.

That is nowhere near as much flexibility as you'd get with a custom BIOS, but it is better than nothing.

Side note.

Does anyone know if the power limit includes ALL power the board uses (including RAM, fan, etc.) or if it is just the core?

It really is doubtful we gonna get some BIOS tools mad.gif

On TXM I got about an extra 20MHz on the core. However the whole deal was more stable and that's what I'm looking for in a BIOS mod. The overall clock speed increase for someone on air or water isn't going to be much different.

The thing I think we need is to uncap the power limit.

Yeap , saw this on the 1080, raising Voltage isn't beneficial unless we get around Power Limit.
EDIT: if not BIOS then hopefully OC soft will get out of BETA and finally give up fuller control thumb.gif

I use the EK 3-way terminal-bridge (or whatever is the proper name) with the metal plate to block the slot 2 opening. Your question regarding using 1-2 or 1-3 slots can depend on whether you have a x4 card in slot 4 AND are running an M.2 NVMe (vs ACHI) For most any gaming purpose, 1-2 will be indistinguishable from 1-3. But, at the limit, any card in x8 forces all its stable mates to communicate x8 in reality. The "true" concurrent bandwidth is driven by the slowest "participant". smile.gif

That they do.

I haven't started playing with voltage adjustments yet, because I want to get my new custom fan controller in there first, but here's where I stand.

With my EK block and custom loop, under load (I used Heaven benchmark on a loop as my load) my max OC without touching voltages is +170Mhz which results in 2063Mhz.

My GPU temp flatlines at 34-35C. It's funny to look at the chart. Completely straight. So is the core clock line. It never throttles down below 2063Mhz.

Unfortunately I didn't win the silicon lottery this time around. This is an OK result but not the best out there.

I'm hoping that by adding voltage I can get it up to 2100 or above, but I'm very rapidly going to hit the power limit when I do, which is why I am thinking about shunt mods, because an unlocked BIOS is unlikely to come our way anytime soon. They just scare me a little. I'm trying to be creative and come up with safer ways of doing it.

I've killed an expensive (but not this expensive) GPU before within weeks of launch. I don't want to do it again tongue.gif
