There's a lot less love for it now than there use to be, many people refuse to buy it now. A lot of people have realized due to the slight frame delays of using multiple cards to render, you need to get much higher FPS than a single GPU solution for it to feel "faster". A 10FPS difference, the single GPU will always feel superior.

The only time I'd honestly recommend/consider getting SLI is when you need more power and there's not a single GPU on the market that can fit the bill. So I can understand why people are buying two Titan X, but I can't understand why someone would buy two 1080s now that the Titan exists.

What FPS are you getting?

I noticed if you get high FPS, SLI can be quite good. 60 and under, it gets pretty bad and feels much worse than a single GPU solution.

I don't see any stutter in the witcher 3 with SLI... be that 4 way Titan X, 2 way 1080 or 2 way Titan XP

maybe there is a bottleneck some place else.

this was my video of blood and win... i don't recall which system i recorded it on.. but it was some SLI smile.gif i think 1080s? there is a very small counter on the bottom right.

Yea, I'd notice stuttering very quickly since that was one of the reasons I went to gsync, even with single GPU.

I'm playing in 1440p and have about 90-110 fps in witcher3, with AA enabled.

I have the titan xp also here and still considering what to do. I can see why one single GPU is better.

with 1080 sli I have 90 fps in the city, with one card 70 fps, ....^^

I notice a stutter immediately, and skimming through the video I can identify a stutter pretty quickly. Based on your FPS in the corner, that looks closer to 35-40FPS to me, not the ~55FPs you are averaging. That could be due to the fact it's a 30FPS video though. tongue.gif

If you've been on SLI for awhile it becomes harder to see the stutter in my opinion, you get use to it. I was using SLI for about 4 builds in a row and I never saw it until I went back to single GPU and realized how much smoother <60FPS is on them.

Yes, that's why your not seeing it. SLI is great at that FPS it basically completely gets rid of the stutter because it's so fast you don't see it.

A SLI setup in the 40-60FPS ranges will feel worse than a single GPU setup in the same ranges based on my experience, but after that point they start to feel roughly the same. By the time you hit ~90FPS, I can't see the microstutter anymore.

At your resolution, I'd keep the SLI probably unless it's giving you headaches/problems.

It depends on the games you play, DICE games seem to have 99 percent on both GPUs and the SLI profile comes out when the game is released, Witcher 3 has good scaling, Elite Dangerous, Crysis 3, many games have good scaling. The fact that GTX 980ti SLI still beats a Titan X shows how good SLI is in most games. However if you play small developed games, then getting a single GPU is better for performance

In the close up chat scenes the witcher drags down. That is why 1080 SLI isn't powerful enough and i replaced them with the titan XPs. Right now that same scenes on the titan X is in the 70s+

also, capturing in 4k in brutal. I use two NVMe intel 750s in raid 0 and sometimes they max out. (but i capture raw rgb, not the **** that other software does. ugh.. the GeForce exp video capture quality is junk frown.gif - then like 8 hours in encode.. then another 10 hours to youtube to butcher it smile.gif haha

Yeah, I tried doing raw 4K@60 capture once with my 850 EVO.

It could manage about 19 frames a second. biggrin.gif

That doesn't look very smooth. I noticed stutter even when scrolling thru the map.
