Do you just turn Gsync off so you get the most out of your cards or leave it on and suffer with lessened performance?

I actually don't do either anymore lol I switched to single card and haven't looked back.

But as far as what I did, it depended on the situation/game and whether I needed the performance or not. I game at either 4k or 3440x1440 @ 100hz gsync and ive actually found ive been able to get everything I need with a water cooled over clocked 1080Ti.

I know its not a great answer for your situation, but im not sure how knowledgeable you are with SLI but if you're playing a game from 2016 or 2017 theres a pretty good chance you're not getting very much from that second card, if anything at all.

I know plenty about both SLI and gsync but only recently picked up the second Titan. I too game at 3440x1440p 100hz so there were a few games I wanted the second card form plus benchmarking.

You are right though, 1 card serves you pretty damn well at that res.

Nope! Well, same one I've had since August lol

I'm going SLI with a pair of AIB 1080s soon to drive the FOVE. Need the grunt, and not willing to pay out for two Henry VIII (fat kings).

I originally was running a 6700k at 4.8ghz with my SLI 1080s and I was noticing some serious stutters and very bad scaling in games that had great scaling with my previous cards. I had a feeling that the titans were getting close to hitting that cut off point and I know for sure in some games, definitely not all the 1080s were being held back by x8x8 and only 4 cores. I made the switch to a 6850k and overclocked to 4.5ghz and immediately saw my scaling improve in the games that were lagging.. and i can guarantee the bandwith problem will only be compounded with something as powerful as a titan XP.

But can I just say that I truly don't believe you should spend the money on a second card. Hear me out. I've been a huge SLI user for a long time, and back in 2014 and 2015 the scaling was pretty decent, not only that but we had around 90+% of AAA games at the time with at least some form of SLI support. Then the 10 series released, and we saw nvidia drop anything over dual cards, and no sli for 60 series. Most of us thought this was a good sign, as it would give targeted attention to the dual cards. Unfortunately it truly wasn't... it was the beginning of the end. In the year 2016 and so far in 2017 sli support has taken an insane drop off in games supported. Last year we had around 40% AAA games with support and this year is looking just as bad. The worst thing is, not only are games not supporting it but we're seeing negative scaling in a lot of games and tons of extra stutter and issues.

Now don't get me wrong, if you play a lot of AAA games from 2015 and older it could be good for you, but if you're like me and you pick up pretty much all the newest AAA games, youre in for a terrible time. So much more time spent on looking for fixes and messing with nvidia inspector etc etc than actually sitting down and enjoying the game. I know because I've been there. I realized I was spending all this time trying to get the game to run the way i want instead of being able just to enjoy it.

All I can say is since I switched to a single 1080Ti and overclocked it heavily, my gaming experience has just been so incredible compared to before. Games just work, and run beautifully, and I don't have to always be wondering if my cards are getting usage or if it's scaling well etc...

If you really want some extra performance, maybe drop the titan X pascal and pick up the new titan Xp. It should be an extra 10% ish performance which unfortunately is really on average all you're going to get with 2 cards... with a few exceptions of course... but then there's also the other exceptions with performance worse than a single card ;/

That's an awfully long post with no mention of resolution or display type. For the FOVE on arrival, I'd probably say one 1080 is minimum...

Also, your claims of bus saturation would need to be backed up with some data.

My resolution? I run both a 4k HDR TV and a predator x34... and as far as the data, I personally did the testing for myself. I'm in no way trying to convince you or anyone lol..although the hardware reviewer for pc gamer has actually done the testing as well and come back with the same conclusion. He has given his findings in a few reviews as well as quite a few comments sections on the site. Unfortunately I'm not going to be trying to find that tonight lol... if you want to try to SLI 2 cards as powerful as the 1080 or higher with a quad core with 16 pcie lanes you can have at it buddy lol... just don't say I didn't warn you when your gaming experience is garbage.

Anyway, I was just giving advice from my own (very thorough) experience. Feel free to listen to it, or don't.

One TITAN/TI card for an X34 is efficient enough, sure. I have both card and screen here. For VR on the FOVE one won't cut any mustard at all. The bus saturation, again, would need to see data. You're talking about more of a CPU bottleneck than any lane saturation.

I just use Vsync,no buffer, and lock ingame fps to Hz of monitor, no delay, smooth, less stress of gpx card. Also can us fastsync if want Gota Qnix 4k32" perfect ips, 10bit, nice.

what's a FOVE?
