What should I do?

Hi guys!

I've just bought a new house and ordered my new 78mbps FO broadband from BT.

Now, the house is quite large and my games room will be on the top floor (2 floors above main router).

I was considering having an electrician install a CAT6a cable through my walls into the top floor, then connecting this to my Netgear Nighthawk and using it as an access point.

Does this sound reasonable?

Will it look ugly having male connectors sticking out of the wall?

Is it possible to buy CAT6a cables that end with female ports that can just sit in my walls?

Thanks guys (I'm an idiot these days)

You can simply use something like this in the walls and plug in there:

Brilliant thanks!

What's that called? Do I then just connect a CAT6a to the back of that and run it downstairs/upstairs?

It's an ethernet wall socket. You'd have to wire a Cat 6a twisted pair cable to it. It's not hard and there are many guides out there, up for googleing wink.gif.
You can find everything you need to know about twisted pair cables here:

Not that I wouldn't do the same if I were you but why do you need 10Gbps cat 6a? Why not just cat 6? 6 can do 150ft at 10Gbps....and if it's a home network, why not cat 5e that does 1Gb over 300ft? Just curious. Cat 6a is a bit more expensive but if you're future proofing by all means. Like I said, I'd probably do the same. ^_^
