Which is a better choice? R9 390/390X or RX 480?

Hi guys wondering which is a good GPU for the money to run 1080p games maxed out on a 5820k, with 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz. Thanks!

The main two games I play are;

1. World of Warcraft
2. Overwatch

I am also open to any recommendation from other GPUs. So I am not locked into these I want to be able to get more for my money for the next year or two. thumb.gif

The powercolor red devil rx 480 is coming out on July 29th for sell at $269.99. I was thinking getting two for CF but not sure if that would be wise or not.

By the way if it was all base on performance I have enough to buy two of those cards what higher performance card as a single gpu option would you recommend?

To be honest, you can even find a 290/290x used for around $175 that'll suit you just fine. Just make sure you don't get the stock cooler. The difference between the stock cooler and the tri-X for me changed my entire opinion of the card.

If you care about power consumption, 480, as it uses half the power of a 390X. Otherwise, 390X is faster.

For ETH mining, they're about the same though.

Me personally I prefer nvidia cards so I'd recommend the 1070 for a single gpu to handle those games. I just rather their driver support over AMD.

I've had sli/crossfire and I prefer the smoothness/support of a single card; with sli/crossfire you're prone to stutters, lack of game support etc. While sli/crossfire has improved alot from back in the day, a single powerful card is still my preference. I recently sold my 970 sli setup for a single 980Ti and have no regrets, smoother performance. Also the fact that I'm running a ultrawide had some impact in the decision.

I see that is great, currently I am running a EK water loop so if I found one with a block would be great to hold me over until the dual GPU cards or 490/490X comes out. biggrin.gif

I see what card you think is best from their GTX 1070 line up? I can go water or air since i have both. biggrin.gif

The EVGA cards good experience with them I was checking them out for air cooling or MSI GeForce GTX 1070 DirectX 12 GTX 1070 SEA HAWK EK X 8GB 256-Bit .

Drivers argument is a nonsense. AMD have improved vastly in that department. So far this year they released more drivers than 2 years before combined. There is no difference between them and NV (I've owned both).

I would go with one 480 (Nitro looks great) and sell it when 490 comes out. Or go with 1070 now. But it's a 256-bit card that won't last as long as Vega.
