XFX DD 290X vs 290 Tri-X

I currently have a 6970 and am looking for an upgrade. I was going to wait for a RX 480, but I probably won't be able to get my hands on one for a few months.

I found a 290 Tri-X 4gig for $175 and a XFX 290X DD 8gig for $200; both used.

The Tri-X can OC to 1075/5800 on stock voltage
The XFX can OC to 1100/6500 on stock voltage.

I'm guessing it comes down to what cooler is better, right? Assuming both can be flashed to a 390X?

I hear the Tri-X is a better cooler as the DD doesn't cool the VRMs as well, correct?

I run a 4770K with a FT-02 case.

Which should I go for?

That's tough. Tri-X definitely has better cooling, but XFX is 290X. I honestly don't know thumb.gif

IF the R9 290 can unlock shader or OC beter than the 290x it would be a good choice but if it cant then the 290x with 8GB is a better deal

Both cheap but I recommend the 8GB one.

Thanks!

I ended up going for the 290x. it's a better performing card and piratically runs at 390X clocks already.

I'm going to try flashing a 390X bios on it with some memory timing tweaks (depending on what chips is has)

I figure worse case scenario, i could pick up an AIO and Kraken G10 and go nuts.
