Need help creating a separate subnet on my wnr4300 dd-wrt for my virtual lab.

Thread Starter
I'm currently going for my MCITP then MCSA certifications and I've setup a test lab on my home pc to tinker and troubleshoot to my hearts content as I learn the ins and outs of server 2008. 2012 and windows administration.

I currently have an Active directory setup with a fallback server visualized within the network on the 10.10.10.0 /24 subnet using static IP's and a default gateway of 10.10.10.1 (which is null atm). I'd like to provide my servers with internet access but separate them from my 192.168.x.x /24 network. I am remotely administering the clients via Remote desktop connection manager for ease of use.

I have a windows 2008r2 server.

Two 2012r2 servers, one of which is the Primary Domain controller and the other is just installed and ready for use to be later converted to a core installation.

One 2016 Tech preview server functioning as the secondary controller and mainly there to start getting my hands dirty with it.

3 separate windows installations: Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8.1 Ent and Windows 10 Pro all joined to the domain.

I'm sure I could create a router within server and create a gateway at 10.10.10.1 and point it to an address on my 192.168.x.x lan for NAT however I haven't gotten to that point yet in my studies and I read somewhere that what I need can be done in dd-wrt.

I thought I could use static routes but it will still require a separate router. I'm a bit confused at this point as to what the best way to provide WAN access to my private lab network. I realize most of the things I want to do can be done without WAN access but since I know it can be done I'd like to get it out of the way.

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but any help would be appreciated.

I've worked with computers most of my life but never gotten to this level of technical administration.

I do have a recent Network + and A+ certification however I'm still a n00b by industry standards and I'm very serious about pursuing a career in Networking, Security and Administration.

If there is a kind souled tech out there that would like to take a struggling husband/father pursuing a new career in his 30's I'd be forever grateful. ^_^

I should also mention this is being done on my sig rig and I do have two NIC's to work with although I'd prefer not to use up the limited/occupied ports on my switch.

Are all the Vm's on one host? If so, you wouldnt make changes on the DDWRT, i mean i guess you could by setting up VLAN's but that would be a headache

What hypervisor are you using? To be honest the 'best' way of doing it if all the hosts are on one box is creating a v-firewall which would act as the 10.1 gateway, its realy really simple, centos box, enable forwarding, iptables rules, done!

Failing that, use the PDC as the router by giving it a bridged adapter and enabling forwarding on that, then your servers will route through that
