You are all talking about the $1.25 Billion the United States awarded AMD for Intel's practices, which was paid. However, the EU fined Intel another $1.25 Billion, which Intel fought, and lost appeal of, yet still hasn't paid.

That money will not go to AMD. Even if Intel loses. That is EU fine, not settlement sum.

Basically that. Note the quoted post(s) said Intel didn't pay AMD, which could only be referring to the US settlement as, AMD would not see a dime from the EU fine.

Absolutely my fault for that, I guess for some reason when I originally heard I thought AMD was getting that as well. Having read again, yup, EU is going to get it! Which is a bit silly, as the EU wasn't damaged, AMD was.

I made the original comment about AMD getting paid (in this thread), and I was very much referring to the EU case. Unfortunately I was wrong in my remembering of who was getting the money. The comments that followed were likely spurred by my incorrect statement.

Thanks for the articles.

It is at least refreshing to see someone accept when they are wrong and learn something new.

I always apologise and accept when I've made a mistake, whether in private or openly on these boards.

Now I know that Intel did, indeed, pay the compensation AMD had been awarded but didn't pay the 1.2 billion the EU fined them.

That the EU lets them get away with it is a travesty and makes a mockery of their rulings and decisions but that is a different discussion and unrelated to my error.

Only reason I was particularly hard on you is because I hate it when people show ignorance and a train of ignorance follows which are people with the same believes(AMD fans).

I made lots of efforts in that thread(the original pcper) to stop the ignorance train, but people were simply being stupid because of their love for AMD/hate for Intel. I made every single effort to make it as clear as possibly that the EU was getting the fine, not AMD.

Ignorance built on hate is the worst type of ignorance as history has shown. I wanted to nip this in the bud before it got out of hand again.

Because his decision is based on financial decisions, and not based on the product itself.
Because he is acting like this is evil vs good, while all of them are just companies trying to maximise their profits in the frame of the law.

If he is deciding a company is evil and he doesn't support it, and not because of their product, and not act accordingly on every other company doing the exact same thing, that is called hypocrisy.
In the end it shows he is not true to his own words. He doesn't want to buy intel because he decided that he is a fan of AMD. Not because that intel are really evil. But he is telling it to himself (and others) because he is so insecure in his decisions, that he needs to keep justifying them irrationally to everyone.

Indeed, anyone who brought when it was around $2.00 should be as happy as a clam right now. Also, not sure how big Sammy Corporation is in Japan, but AMD just announced a deal to supply APUs to them for Pachinko machines.

I got in "late" but still early enough to see 50% gains. I can't wait to build a Zen 8core monster smile.gifbiggrin.gif

I expect some pull back this week, but peaking past 6 is a great support level for future bull rushes.

Underwhelming Zen will destroy this stock, so a great execution is critical to success.

Id get a AMD GPU as a token of gratitude. Even a really expensive one.
But AMD have nothing to offer for enthusiasts. Zero. Nada.

So, stock is continuing to climb. What do the insiders know that we don't?
