Awesome sale on GOG today. - Page 2

I remember those days of needing a dvd drive to play games. Now of day you'd sound crazy by the very mentioning of such a requirement.

Does the sell end today?

You misunderstand. GoG is a licensed seller, as in they have contracts and agreements to sell these games in the way they are. There is absolutely nothing for you to argue.
GOG DRM free games can also be auto updated via GOG GALAXY client app (which is currently in beta form) and is working very well on Windows 10. Other Wx users, express your experience.

I haven't research whether GOG games worked cross platform like Steam yet. If you buy a game on Steam, it will work on MS, MAC, Linux, Android, Google with just one license key.

I am 500+ on Steam games, but Galaxy is pretty sweet too. . .

In fact, if GoG offers a game you want to buy, but may be slightly pricier, buy it from them still. As with the Witcher series, the devs get the greatest cut from GoG than from any other online retailers out there. And no DRM is pretty great, but use your brain as to not hurt the devs.

I'm not talking about that lol. I'm talking about DRM.

What, do you want DRM?, if so I have some ocean front property to sell you... but I can only show it to you when the tide is low.
Bring your friends and lots of Cashiers checks!

*I also take GOLD, DIAMONDS, BEARER BONDS.

Don't know, nor care what your angle is or fixation with DRM is but:

Good OLD Games (GOG.com) has been around for a years and for maybe a few isolated cases the titles are being sold with the express permission of the authors /owners, so tell me again how that is against the EULA?

Q: You joined Jan 2005, and you have 9,633 posts and you're asking about DRM, Good OLD Games (GOG.com) ?????

Regarding DRM:

Nobody wants DRM, except those selling that el-crap-ola.

BTW: If you want DRM, buy your games from STEAM /ORIGIN, etc... If you're lucky (not) the game itself has DRM in it, and you get bonus DRM with the STEAM /ORIGIN//UPLAY CLIENT !
Double DRM, oh joy....

(STEAM CLIENT, etc is technically not DRM for anal types... but try to play games sourced thru STEAM /ORIGIN/ /UPLAY, etc without the client. While some with play, alot will not.)

If that's not enough, with games you source via STEAM, you pretty much have zero rights of ownership of the license for the game itself IIRC, and you get NO offline installer. (Read STEAM SERVICE TOS)

With games you buy via GOG (unless they've changed things) you own a license for titles you buy, and you are able to download the installer... that IIRC can be installed "offline"at ANY point in the future.

10,000 years from now you could install and run the games from GOG. With games purchased thru GOG there are no DRM servers the installer has to connect to, there is no requirement (AFAIK) for a always "ON" connection like alot of the so-called AAA games are demanding.

The above is why I wish I had bought ALL my games thru GOG, vs STEAM, ORIGIN, etc.

PS: If anything the games are being sold in their "Original state" before the DRM el-crap-ola got added in.

*Disclaimer: I have a fixation with DRM... I don't like it. It should be stripped out 180-360 days after the release of a title.

No arguing, just trying to fill in the blanks for ya!

(Amazed though with a join date of Jan 2005... and with 9,633 posts you poised the questions you did. Are you serious about not knowing about GOG.com 's business model of selling DRM free games, and you get the offline installers?)

Cheers! cheers.gif

I never used GOG. Just because I'm an OCN member doesn't mean I know all about the gaming industry and the types of stores out there. I just remember reading about the CD key selling online stores that illegally obtain keys and somehow get away with selling them.

Understandable given how there's so many of those.

GoG doesn't sell CD keys. They are owned by Cd projekt, the guys who make the witcher games. They make agreements with publishers to sell games without DRM... they started doing it as a way for people to legitimately buy old games that are often hard to play due to outdated DRM (hence their name, good old games), but have started offering new games too when the publishers are willing to take the DRM off.
