It should definitely fit. I've seen builds that use the XE series for both rads. The top portion is wide enough that you can scoot the rad closer to the window side of the case so it will clear the RAM. The only reason I didn't get two XE's was that I felt like the top radiator hung too low and didn't look as aesthetically pleasing.

If you scroll near bottom of this thread, you should be able to see a picture of it. His build is beautiful, just not what I was going for.

It's been frustrating not being able to build anything. I'm miffed I would have to pay a 20% restocking fee in addition to shipping from Arizona to Florida if I wanted to return my rad. Not sure if anyone would buy it at full price on Ebay.

Otherwise I've put in my PSU and am testing to see how I should orient my 360 rad up front. I think I've setting for having the fittings at the top since I can clear the reservoir but I'm not sure what to do about draining. It appears that the drain port would butt up against the radiator. I could put the fans outside the case but I know I'd lose a couple of degrees doing so.

I also had more pictures but for whatever reason I can't get them to orient correctly even though they're correct on my computer.

I'm surprised the Vardars didn't come with any noise dampening.

Here the fans are on the inside of the case. Still debating whether to have them on the inside or outside.

I've seen pictures of people with the same res but the ports are not facing the rad at all, so they must have moved them somehow. If anyone knows how to get that working I would appreciate the help thumb.gif

I think the res spins. http://www.overclock.net/t/1432177/xspc-photon-glass-reservoir-d5-pump-combo/0_30#post_21080833

If you can't get it, you could use a Tee fitting near the out on the pump for a drain.

Excellent, I scoured that link and found someone who explained how to spin it. This will be awesome! I'll probably get to that tonight I hope. Thanks for all your help Diffident! Do you have any questions or since you said you were going to be using a similar setup?

Most of my stuff will be delivered tomorrow. After seeing how big your 360 XE rad is, I think I'm going to get a 360 PE for the top of mine.

Just so you know it will probably not be possible to do the 360 XE AND the 360 PE in any orientation. I get the feeling you're going to use the PE up top on the 240 XE in the front though so that would work fine. You're right though, the 360 XE up top is quite thick and comes down in front of or almost in front of the RAM. It won't touch since you can move it towards the case but it just looks cramped.

Nice looking build so far. Have you thought about getting a dust filter for the top? This is for a r5 but it also fits the S. http://www.performance-pcs.com/demcifilters-custom/demciflex-magnetic-fan-dust-filter-custom-filter-for-fractal-design-r5-3-vent-top.html

No I haven't. That looks like a pretty cool idea. I might look into making one myself but if it ends up being around the same price I suppose I'm better off buying one. Thanks for the link! thumb.gif

I'm going to combine a couple days worth of work here in this post.

First I needed to change the orientation of the ports as they were being blocked by the rad.

For anyone looking into how to do it the pictures below will show step by step.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Changing Port Orientation

First you remove the screws that keep the bracket on.

Then you take the top part off first as it makes taking the vertical bracket part off much easier.

The bottom bracket is the part you want to move. Be sure to only hold on to the base of the res so you don't loosen the top. There are warnings about opening this up so I was apprehensive when the bottom bracket took some elbow grease to move but if you whisper it sweet nothings its grasp relaxes.

Cable Sleeving

This is fairly embarassing but I followed a guide by AwesomeSauce (which is really a great video) about how to sleeve. However his guide is about cable extensions which I am not doing so once I got through a couple cables I realized that all the connections from PSU to GPU were female doh.gif

Either way I was able to get one heatshrinkless done which I thought turned out pretty nice. I need to order more female connectors and pins though rolleyes.gif

In addition to that, I realized that my PCIe cables are 8 pin to 6+2 pin. I would really rather have two 6 pin cables going to the GPU as it would look so much cleaner but I'm not sure which pins to leave out of the 8 pin. I've tried reading my PSU's documentation but there is nothing in there.

There have been many frustrations so far. After figuring out how to change the port orientation, I have discovered that there is not much breathing room in my case with the rad+fans on the inside. I knew it would be close but not this close. I could definitely put the fans on the outside but on the top it would look stupid as I have ordered the magnetic dust filter that @nzphil mentioned. On the front it would be doable but I would probably lose a couple of degrees as the front cover would be block it and then I would not be able to use the dust filter there.

My only options as I see it are:
  1. current orientation, black magic used for tube routing
  2. 240+fans up top, inside case w/ 360 in front, fans outside
  3. 240+fans up front, ports high w/ 360+fans up top ports either way

Cutting it pretty close...not sure what to do about that.
