And the water still looked worse than in Crysis 1.
Probably they signed a contract with EA and EA is pushing Origin, but Crysis 2 was hold onto steam due to crytek´s choice

and the water looks better on Cryengine 3/Crysis 2

Crysis / Crysis 2

We've seen far better and more capable developers go out of business over the last 16 years, yet the waste of space that is craptec are still making an engine that no one uses for actual game development besides niche games like star citizen and that sniper game that somehow got a sequel.
The games using Cryengine arent only AAA titles or niche games.

Crytec, patch crysis 1 to fix the performance issues, then close shop.
many developers release unoptimized and broken games and never are fixed.

then most games developers should be boycotted for releasing/making bad quality games

Crytek still needs to make peace with PC gamers.

1. Pairing up with Microsoft to promote Windows Vista and artificially restrict in Crysis some graphics options to DX 10 mode that were found out worked in DX 9 too.

2. Releasing Crysis 2 in 2011, more than three years after the first one (2007) with DX 9 graphics in the beginning, not even DX 10, let alone DX 11, which came out in 2009. Then again, Windows 7 didn't need promoting, did it (let alone in 2011)?

3. Releasing Crysis 3 only on Origin, but releasing the later and crappy Ryse: Son of Rome on Steam too.

Not only that but in Crysis 3 they pumped up Tessellation to absurd level to negatively affect performance on AMD GPUs

The hilarious thing about tesselation is that it can be forced through AMD drivers, something nVidia users can't do so they're stuck with whatever nVidia decides they need, thus negatively affecting them far more than it does AMD users..

Amazon has licensed the Crytec engine and has made it free to download. It's called Lumberyard. integrated with Twitch, and thei cloud based web farm (AWS) Amazon Webs Services etc...

It's basically their new GameDev stack they are trying to get off the ground.

Eh, Crysis 3 is a gaming evolved title and runs well on AMD gpus... or am I mistaken?

Crysis 2 was the one with insanely unnecessary tessellation cranked up to 11. And even then I don't think it was sabotage. Just a more of a "look how many polygons are on the screen with tessellation" type thing.

If it hadn't been invisible underground water I'd have agreed but it served no purpose whatsoever.

I don't think it was intentional sabotage towards AMD either, more of a "well you PCMR types kept whining about no DX11, so we threw together this DX11 patch with tessellation cranked to 11 just for you guys thumb.gif".

And what about batman's over tessellated cape in Arkham origins ? biggrin.gif

I dunno, was this before or after AMD made that tessellation slider in CCC?

I guess my issue with the intentional sabotage theory is, AMD has a tessellation slider, and nVidia doesn't. If nVidia forced ridiculous amounts of tessellation (like they did with Hairworks in Witcher 3), it only ends up hurting their own users more because they have no way of dialing it back down to 5 from 11.
