Why when I got what I got the performance I needed 12 month earlier?

I am not engaging in the two biggest logic fallacy of OCN:
  1. Must have the fastest card avaliable all the time
  2. Buy "Future Proof" card that is not currently that good.

But upgraded because 980Ti was giving me 48-52 FPS Ultra vs 1080's 62-65 FPS Ultra in game I play, have no interest in waiting a year just to have a card that can run 85 FPS Ultra on my 60 FPS monitor.

Because the longevity of the 1080ti might make the time/price difference much better. Waiting 12 months....might give a total 2 years more shelf life for the same price. Not to mention the vast majority of the bugs will be ironed out. And who knows....it might even have HBM2 and a few other tricks up its sleeve.

Point is, the Titan isn't the game changer or decider, it's the 1080ti that will be.

That's a whole bunch of "if"s and "might"s you are trying to sell there, which don't hold a candle to a year of assured performance gain that I would be giving up by waiting(and losses in 980Ti resale value, I had a 980Ti that was step-up eligible, by waiting I would have lost that value entirely). Even if the 1080Ti can give me more performance, I had to spend more $$ on the monitor to realize it as 1080 maxes it out currently in games I play. I bought the card knowing for certain 1080Ti will be faster and might be around the same price a year later, because 1080Ti doesn't satisfy my desire to have more performance now.

Considering the difference between the 980ti and 1080, it's not that much of a bump for the price. How much did you trade the 980ti in for?

You can justify it to some wives as "Hey, I'm practicing a potentially life saving skill here at the gun range" versus "I just want my ego boosted with a splurge on an unnecessary component purchase." Mine just isn't the type I can bribe with jewelry or vacations. I have to slide my "extra" purchases in under the radar. thumb.gif
Lol, I know the feeling all too well.
When my two 970s arrived, I quickly hid the boxes. Luckily, later on my wife only found one of them.

Yep. I came from 780 SLI and moved to 1070 SLI. I went from being horribly VRAM limited to maxed out settings at a whopping 5120x2160 @ 80 FPS in BF4, Battlefront, The Witcher 3, and even more for Overwatch. This setup is nirvana; beastly doesn't even begin to describe this sort of performance.

Haha, I send half the things I buy to my parents place, sonmy girlfriend don't see them or think it came from my brother's stock...
Might have to do that for my next GPU (1180 or Vega, will pass on the 1080).

I didnt expect such a quick release. Bought the 1080 2 months ago day one and put a EK WB on it. Having said that I am super happy the Titan comes already. I am still super power hungry and being enthusiast I apreaciate more FPS. I will buy the Titan day 1 and put the 1080 in a secondary system.

I am really happy about the decision to release already whatever is possible right now even if it means next year we get another Volta Titan.

Otherwise I would have to live with the 1080 for another year or at least 10 months and I still urge for much more fps for Supersampling in VR and 4 (will still urge but plus 20 to 30% is better than nothing...)

So for me not being all too price sensitive this is phenomenal good news!!

At the moment I buy everything that gives more fps and appreciate every release.
