Random hard freezes while gaming

Thread Starter
So i am unsure if this is the correct forum, or even if the issue is with my CPU, but i recently upgraded my rig in December, and my GPU very recently. I was having constant video driver crashes with my 7970 but now with my 1070 i no longer have driver crashes or BSODs. However, while playing games such as Black Desert Online and even Borderlands 2 recently, i have been getting very random hard freezes, where my system completely locks up and i cannot do anything. What is also extremely odd however, is that i can play Arma 3 for 4 hours with no issue, and then go play another game and have a random hard freeze. It is very irritating.

Here are my specs:

i7 5820k stock

EVGA X99 FTW

EVGA 1070 SC

Corsair CX750 (I know this is the weak point of my build, but i do not think its the PSU)

Samsung 250GB SSD + 2 older HDDS, one is a 1tb the other is a 500gbs.

16gb Corsair DDR4

Antech 1200

Windows 10 64 bit

Any help or advice would be appreciated because this is VERY irritating.

DxDiag.txt 78k .txt file

Here is my Dxdiag.

What you are describing sounds like the result of one of your drives thats dying
Try and take out every drive but the one with your OS on and see if you can get it to freeze

If you cant then you found your problem
If your system still freezes even with only one drive in it then its either that drive thats left or it could be RAM in that case.

I did try to play games on both hard drives and had crashes on both (except on my SSD.)

So it could be possible that both my hard drives are dying at once, which would suck

Next step to do after you ruled out the HDD/SSD´s is to take out all but one of your RAM
If it still does it take out that RAM and put another in another slot.

Still think its one of your HDD´s but i could be wrong
The PSU is also another option even if you dont think it is, do you have another PSU you can borrow and try?

I ran memtest86 6 passes, no issues. I also ran the intel processor test tool, no issues. Could still be the HDD.

For how long did you run memtest86? it might not even be because of the HDD itself a bad SATA cable or port can also cause the same problem
Take your SATA cables out and look at them and they or the port if look worn throw the cables away and use another port if they are

Its rare but i have seen SATA cables cause all sort of havoc on systems before.
