Really depends on if this rumor being true or not. If that is true, then Vega is only going to be competing against 1080 and will have no chance against catching up to Titan.

well that just means there is a 4096 Vega, which is no surprise

and yes, 4096 Vega has no chance vs Titan XP, only vs 1080

but that doesnt a exclude a >>4096 Vega also existing (at some point)

Not a rumor since the leak of Vega11, Vega10 and Greenland in AMD's OpenCL driver with them being gfx IP 9.0. It's pretty likely that the 4096 shader part is the smaller Vega at around 400mm2 while the other Vega is a ~600mm2 part which would explain why AMD are bothering with HBM2. Also, Greenland is a different entity than Vega chips.

http://videocardz.com/62250/amd-vega10-and-vega11-gpus-spotted-in-opencl-driver

The 4096 shader part should be a fair bit faster than Fury X though I doubt it'd end up close to 1080 unless AMD can hit 1.4Ghz. More likely closer to 1070 a la 480 vs. 970/980.

And it should be releasing well before this year's end.

In the above pic. C98xxx is smaller Polaris, D00xx is bigger.

seeing how rx480 exceeds gtx 1070 power consumption, the idea of Vega having a hard time against 1080 is not as crazy as ppl make it seem here. mark my words. Vega will be a 2x bigger die than rx480. of course CLC and HBM2 are ways of solving this problem (if it ever occurs), but can they really put CLC and HBM2 on a card and make it competitive with e.g. $650 custom versions of 1080 price/performance wise if they're clocked at 2GHz out of the box ?

Are you sure there will be a 600mm chip so soon from AMD, especially we are talking about 14nm FF Goflo.

And we are talking about 350-400W chip here.

definitely not at the same time as when first Vega (most likely 4096 one) releases in Q1/Q2 2017

later maybe

Hmm that means unless Vega comes with revolutionary architecture that improve 25% IPC with 25% lesser power over Polaris, I dont see 4096 cores having much chance against the 1080.

Till den, Titan XP will still be $1200.

Really not clear why people expect zero inflation in graphics cards.

Over 150% inflation in 5 years? LMAO, that's all I have to say.
