As the title indicates. What are the best 120mm fans for performance and quiet operation?

Could you define what you want to do with these fans?

As it is now your question is like
"What are the best 15" tires for performance and quiet operation?" biggrin.gif
Or
"What is the best pen for smooth writing and no smearing?" biggrin.gif

Sure, use them as PC case fans. Also, one potentially for a CPU cooler.

Gentle Typhoon, EK Vardar or Noctuas are what I'd suggest.
To be quiet you'd want to stay under 2000rpm.

I personally use the EK Vardar 2200 RPM and imho they aren't that loud

Most of the 120mm fans I've seen are sold at 1150, 1450 and 1850 rpm, which should be quiet.
140mm fans are 1150, 1600 and 2000 rpm, if you're able to fit them instead.

GTs, PH-F120MP, maybe Vardars but some complain about their sound and there have been quality control issues that may be resolved by now.

Edit. For normal use you want 120mm fans to be below about 1100-1200rpm or you will definitely hear them. Some people say 1000rpm is as fans as they want 120mm in everyday use. I'm using all 140mm and like to keep them below 800 in normal use with occasional 1000-1100rpm extreme use, but 120mm fans can runs 100-200rpm faster without becoming intrusive.

I am liking the Fractal Design HF-12 and the Corsair ML120 PRO 120mm Premium Magnetic Levitation Fan, but here is a list I made.

Updated List Below
FanComparisonChart2.xlsx 13k .xlsx file
the ones highlighted in blue are the best ones I picked under 20 dB/A.

Here's another fan performance chart, though from a few years ago.
