Thanks for the write up. Looks like there is no reason to change out these vardars.

I have tested two of the three outside of my case, both of which made this noise. The other one doesn't make the noise in any orientation while installed in the case.

I'm going to do some more testing tomorrow, but it looks like two are going back. I got mine through kikatek, should I return them there, or go through corsair's website to get an RMA? Don't really mind whether I get a refund or replacements.

Seems to me that Doyll's and other's skeptisicm is a pretty reasonable stance to take redface.gif

To follow up, I'm giving up on these fans and returning them. They all make a small but audible motor-noise at 800rpm, and after a while playing a game and having them under load, one made a noise that went beyond the fans at full speed. At this point I am too tired to work out exactly what is going on with these fans - it's not an easy job swapping fans in my case, and I've already done it far too many times trying to make these fans work. I tested with PWM and with voltage control, it was the same both ways.

Maybe they're all faulty, maybe they are resonating with my case... I don't know. What I do know, is that my gentle typhoons are silent in comparison at idle and never make any noise other than that of airflow when under load. They are staying right where they are.

I can't myself post links to personal websites outside of OCN.

Thanks for the update. You are the first I have seen to have complaints so far. Are you going to return for refund then? Or will you return for exchange if your mood has changed since?

I wasn't expecting to have an issue because of that, so this came as a surprise to me. I've requested a refund - for this price, they needed to just work, and work well. I both don't have the time for and don't want to risk RMAing and finding the same behaviour to occur with new fans. Plus I'm still mad at them. redface.gif

I bought 5 ML120 Pros and 2 of them are also making a strange whirring noise at around 750-850 RPM (30-35% PWM). The sound is almost like a faint, oscillating whistle that temporarily goes away if I lightly tap the fans that do it. But then comes back after awhile. Disappointing because they are excellent fans otherwise, and this doesn't happen at the higher RPMs that I expect less noise sensitive people will run these fans at. I'll have to return these too.

Edit: PWM controlled, not voltage controlled.

Edit2: I'll try to record it when I'm back home later today.

I let Corsair engineer know, he says it would be nice if you could contact Corsair customer support so they get those fans back and do failure analysis. Returns to retailers just get tossed out apparently. He suspects a drop during shipping but you never know!

It would be nice to contact Corsair engineer. geggeg, could you get engineer's email and PM it to sdch?
Then Corsair could send a pickup label to sdch and he could send the fans directly to engineer. wink.gif

That's their default process. Any RMA returns to Corsair directly go through failure testing at their lab and also the factory (if necessary) before further steps are done.
