Picking out GPU for brother. 950 2GB or 960 4GB?

Wants to be right around the 200 mark. Here are the 2 cards I narrowed it down to.

950 - https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/CMvZxr/msi-video-card-gtx9502gd5oc

960 - https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/YqkwrH/asus-video-card-strixgtx960dc2oc4gd5

I know the 960 is a bit over what he wants to spend but i'm wondering if it's worth the extra cash investment. I can't seem to find anything online comparing a 950 2GB to a 960 4GB.

I'd love some input. Thanks!

At this point the GTX 960 is a rip-off near the $200 price bracket. I'd personally get a 4GB aftermarket RX480 which should be available late this week from sapphire. If you have to buy Nvidia and need a brand new card, I'd save up the extra money for a 1060, the performance difference betwen the 960 and 1060 is HUGE.

It sure is! I did some digging and everything I find seems to indicate the 960 is only around 10% better than the 950 for almost 50% markup in price. That's horrible.

So the 1060 and RX 480 are both released as of last week? Just really hard to find it seems... I'm in Canada so the prices are a little higher here, but that RX4 80 is starting to seem like a no-brainer. Thanks for the reply!

EDIT: At right around 300 in Canada for the RX 480 it's looking like the RX 470 is going to be the best bet...but wow there's like 0 information available on this card right now.

Yea, unfortunately availability for the both the RX480 and 1060 is really poor at the moment. If you can hold on for the next 2-3 weeks stock should probably start to become more stable.

what about an used r9 290/x r9 390 from kijiji or reddit? it will be more powerful than a 960 and costs around the same, the rx 470 can be a choice too

To second PontiacGTX, depending on how the prices are in Canada, I would consider waiting to see how the RX 470 stacks up. Should come in right around $200 CAD.

I'm more than likely going to recommend the 470 (Or 460. He's frugal and mostly wants it for 1080p Rocket League) I'll see how benchmarks are but I can't imagine them being too bad. They'll probably be a considerable step up from the GTX 950 and for only a little big more dough.

Now if only they'll hurry up and release the damn cards! xD
