Therefore being in the black from an accounting standpoint doesn't necessarily mean that they made the correct business decision.

Regarding your xbox comment, you're again mistakenly using accounting profit rather than economic value. Although the xbox may have lost money on paper (I'll take your word on it), it created a very valuable brand for microsoft that it would profit from in the future.

What I'm getting at is, what good is market share and brand recognition if you don't make money? I think shareholders care about making money more than investing in something "popular". I would anyway

Nintendo has always cared more about turning profit than overall market share. They have been very clear on this.

is there discussion on the effect of docking to the NX battery?
is the device smart enough to stop the battery from discharging/charging when it is docked or it will have separate ports for charge and up clock?
or it will have a removable battery and they pray that customer removes the battery before playing?
or they will design the battery to prevent docking and customer have to remove the battery?

i know some mobile chips can get hot while playing games but how they plan to avoid the heat or long screen on time from damaging the screen when it is docked? Last time, i can only switch off the Gamepad when i am using the pro controller. Not sure if it can be switched off permanently while playing..

anyone shot down the external GPU on the dock theory?
do i need to buy a proprietary cable separately for this GPU dock because it is sold by third parties....

is it true they plan to bundle controllers with the handheld standalone?

No one really knows. There's a new rumour everyday. Like the one below. Hopefully we know by the end of September from Nintendo or before that.

Nintendo will start trial production of its next-generation console, the NX, in the third quarter of 2016 and start volume production in early fourth quarter, about one quarter ahead of the originally scheduled early 2017, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

Over 40% of initial production will be undertaken by Foxconn Electronics and the remaining by Japan-based Misumi Electronics and Hosiden, the sources said. Taiwan-based component makers will include chassis maker Foxconn Technology, NAND flash memory maker Macronix International, CMOS image sensor design house Pixart Imaging and power supply maker Delta Electronics, the sources indicated.

Nintendo originally planned to begin production of NX in the second quarter of 2016, but deferred production to early 2017 due to continual changes in design and specifications, the sources said. The NX will use Nvidia's ARM-architecture Tegra X1, the sources indicated.

It might look like this:

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 100

Article is about game developers supporting new Nintendo goodie.

I like it.

Edit: I also think Tegra is the best hardware posible for it.

X1 makes sense if they're aiming to produce a scaled down version with next gen processes, and if Nvidia has a large excess of chips to unload.
The only thing left giving me a little bit of hope that NX isn't X1 is, if it is X1, why aren't they launching right now? Why March 2017? Zelda is undoubtedly ready, surely a fall 2016 launch would be more beneficial, unless something in the hardware isn't ready for production, and a new processor is the only thing I can think of that would absolutely need more time to develop.

It would be a seriously good move to hit closer to Xbone specs than Wii U+
It would also make sense for Nvidia to push for x2 if they want to guarantee that they can move tens of millions of chips. Get bulk pricing off the Nintendo contract and then make your own products more competitive.
If the foundries are bogged down then maybe that wouldn't work, or maybe the massive contract is just what they need to give X2 production a higher priority?

At least we know it's guaranteed to be a handheld more powerful than Wii U.

I really, really, REALLY don't want to play the new Zelda flagship title on a stupid hand held (or any other games for that matter). I wonder how this thing is going to work as a home console? I have absolutely no interest in mobile gaming whatsoever and am really only interested in playing the new Zelda at home on my 60" TV with my surround sound. I'll buy the NX just for this game but the home experience can NOT be compromised just for this silly "portability" gimmick IMO...

Nothing stopping them from having a docking station that turns it into the console, with all the inputs and outputs of one.

If the rumors about docking station and detachable controller are true, i don't see it compromising "home console experience" imo.
