And your point? If someone wants the latest and greatest. They will pay. People like you don't want to. Which is fine. But, don't expect to get good bang for the buck even used with how long you are willing to wait. Especially if you want to keep the card long term.

I fail to see why you needed to make a pointless comment that had nothing to do with anything this thread is about?

Actually it does. I replied directly to you. Its not the answer you wanted to hear and obviously don't like it. I am not here to argue with you. If you are willing to spend $300. Wait for a used 980 Ti to go a bit lower and grab that. Its not far behind from a 1080 at all. I went from a 960 to a 1080. If I had a 980 Ti going to a 1080. It would have been a complete waste. Don't get hung up on the 1080 if you have a chance to buy a 980 Ti for a real good price.

Probably not too long, a year maybe if Vega and Volta live up to the hype. If Vega drops before the year is out and its priced around $499 then the green team will have to make some price adjustments, but that is a big if as AMD has a clock problem.

Depends if vega/volta come soon or not. Either that AMD pull something out that can compete.

Tbh as soon as big pascal comes out I wouldnt be surprised if a buncb of second handers come down in price. 1080 should really be called 1060 for what the chip is.

But above point is moot unless AMD have something they can fight with

This is the big one. Only once AMD releases a high-end, competitive product will the GTX 1080 price drop to a reasonable level... of course, once that happens, we should have a product that is cheaper, faster, runs cooler, and uses less power than the GTX 1080. wink.gif

Expect about 2-3 generations of video cards to drop before the GTX 1080 costs less than $300 used. At that point, the GTX 1080 will be playing second fiddle to something better.

Well for reference, you can now get a GTX 980 equivalent for under $300 - the GTX 1060. And this follows a common historic pattern. So two years maybe?

But a GTX 1060 will laugh at 1080p. No game will be a challenge to run any time soon.

I was thinking the same thing about a 1060. It's a pretty powerful card. But the OP already has a 290X, so the 1060 wouldn't be much of an upgrade.
