2018 when new architecture comes out, the price of the 1080 will drop to half.

I don't buy cards new anymore, and I most certainly don't pay the massively inflated retail price when they first come out. How long would you think before 1080s can be had for under $300 used? End of next year? 2 more card generations? 3?

Go start a gofundme. I'll throw 10-20$ your way no problem.

Interesting idea but it wouldn't be worth the time probably. I doubt I'd end up with much in the end and by the time I got it set up I could have gone out and made $200 by working probably.

Expect about 2-3 generations of video cards to drop before the GTX 1080 costs less than $300 used. At that point, the GTX 1080 will be playing second fiddle to something better.

Considering that 980Ti's used are barely worth $300 at this moment after being $650 new just a couple months ago ... I'd say 'you really never know'.

It depends on how fast tech progresses.

Given we've just seen a process shrink, I'd suspect we'll see rapid advancements (relatively-speaking) over the next 2 years.

Wow, really?

If you literally have NO money to do anything, then what is the point asking everyone to ponder this question and give you feedback?

It really only makes sense if you're actually considering some other, more immediate, option.

I think your post is the one that doesn't make any sense. Do you never plan anything more than a day ahead of time?

Short answer is obviously nobody knows when the 1080 will hit $300. Everyone is speculating.

What we do know is the prices of the new 1080 and the going prices of a used 980/ti and the like.

My advice is don't worry about what the price could be down the line. Save up to $300 and buy whatever gives you the best bang for for you buck when you have the money.

Honest answer you can get without giving you false hope of price drop and such.

hmmm why not a 980TI? you will get 1 of this ones used for $300 like in 2 weeks thats for sure....

My 980TI (1560) overclocked vs my 1080 overclocked (2126)

Its just a mere (12.5%) so round that down to 10% (margin of error) in 1080 favor.... which in real case scenario its nothing..

just for you to keep that in mind

2 more generations. Maybe, maybe faster in USA.

If AMD doesn't come up with decent Vega and Navi then NV is going to stall the market and keep prices high.
