Valve wasted time and money on SteamOS because gaben threw a hissy fit that Microsoft was including an app store with Windows 8. He basically threw out the same bizarre conspiracy theories that Microsoft was going to break/block/disable Steam and force everyone to use the MS app store--something that Microsoft could
do, but that sort of action isn't in Nadella's wheelhouse. He's all about the cloud and services, which means content providers have to have access to Windows in order to provide services.
