Consultation about installing full water cooling

Thread Starter
Hello guys..
I want you're help for choosing water cooling system for my PC, i have Thermaltake Versa H35 case and i want to install water cooling system for my CPU + GPU.
this is my build

CPU Intel Core i7-4790K
M/B: MSI Z87 G45 Gaming
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming
RAM: Crucial Sport 16GB 2x8GB
SSD: SanDisk 128GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB + WD Blue 1TB
PSU: Thermaltake SMART 750 Watt
Case: Thermaltake Versa H35

This is my first water cooling build, the questions are:

1- I am thinking of extreme cooling, 420mm radiator will be possible ?
2- How to choose the tubing + fittings ? i mean the size of it.
3- How to choose a match up pump for my case?
4- For reservoir, one will be enough? and will it be better if the reservoir capacity is larger ?

Thank you.

To size a rads you first have to know how much heat you need to dissipate. You can assume that all the the power your PSU is supplying will be converted to heat. So, looking up the TDP of your components is where to start.

Once you know how much heat you're dealing with (don't forget to include the extra heat an overclock creates) you can start looking at rads. To figure out how much a specific rad will remove you need to know the water flow rate and the air flow rate through that rad.

Tubing size effects flow rate. Use the size that will give you the flow rate you need.

You choose a pump based on whether it will give you the flow rate you need with the flow restriction of your components. Pretty much any pump will fit in any case, except for, perhaps, very small cases. You just have figure out where you can put it..

Only a single res is needed. The size really doesn't matter. The only purpose for installing a res is to make getting the air out of your system when you initially start it up easier.

This thread may help you.

As @billbartuska wrote, you need to read the suggested and several other posts in order to decide how to proceed, how to plan and how to choose your WC components.

Regarding the rad and if 420 can be mounted in the top of your case, I can suggest, since you already have the case, try to find the exact size of the rad you are interested and measure your case to see if mounting is possible. The holes in your case for the mounting should be there, from what i see. You can also try to make an exact model of the rad from paperboard (2 dimensions) and try to fit it in your case.
For examble, EK 420 rad https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-coolstream-ce-420-triple. You can find the exact size of the rad if you check pictures in the right.

Regarding the thickness of the rad that can be mounted in the top of your case, you need to measure the available clearance from the top of your case to the first mounting hole of the motherboard.

Just by looking some photos here http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00002474 I suspect you can only mound 30mm thick rad + 25mm fans, so your clearance should be 50 to 60 mm. But you need to measure this by yourself.

Based on your case specs, a 420 rad will not fit but a 360 will. Unless you are planning on some extreme overclocking that will be enough radiator space, but there's room for another rad in the front. The specs say up to a 360 in front, but with one up top you may only be able to fit a 240 in the front.

For your tubing and fittings just make sure they all match ID/OD. Larger tubing like 1/2 x 3/4 looks good in larger cases, but can be more difficult to get tight bends. Price can also be a factor here, with larger tubing/fittings costing more than the smaller sizes.

I would suggest a pump/res combo unit. There are a lot of options and it really just comes down to aesthetics. I've been using the Monsoon MMRS stuff. You can customize the size/colors and really build it to suit your system. The XSPC photon pump/res is another one that I've used and really liked.

Here's what I would do:

Buy this kit - http://www.performance-pcs.com/ek-kit-s360-premium-watercooling-kit.html

This additional radiator - http://www.performance-pcs.com/ek-coolstream-se-240-slim-dual.html

One of these GPU blocks - http://www.performance-pcs.com/water-blocks-gpu/shopby/vga-series--gigabyter-geforce-gtx-1080-g1/

Two of these fans for additional rad - http://www.performance-pcs.com/ek-vardar-f3-120-1850rpm-high-performance-liquid-cooling-fan.html

Four of these fittings for additional rad and GPU block - http://www.performance-pcs.com/ek-acf-compression-fitting-10-13mm-3-8-x-1-2-nickel.html

Put the 360 rad up top and the 240 rad in the front both with fans intaking in pull mode. Run the tubing like this, pump/res -> gpu -> cpu -> top rad -> front rad -> back to pump/res. Enjoy!

NOTE: If tube runs get tricky and you have the budget get some 90 and 45 degree elbows to help keep the tube straighter. Shortest tubing path is best.

Feel free to ask for further explanation on my suggestions.
