6950X - Asus TPU boosts CPU voltage to 1.628

Hello

I was doing some overclocking testing on the X99-Deluxe II, before I started doing the all the settings manually I was just testing Asus TPU

When I overclock anything from 4.1 to 4.5 I can my CPU benchmark tests but the voltage to the CPU at all these clock speeds flies up from 1.278 to 1.628, which I know is ridiculously high.

Any chance the few minutes I tested this and it got that high of a voltage could have damaged the CPU in any way?

Hoping not

Also if anyone has an optimal settings guide for this CPU and Mobo that would be great to check over

Thanks

ASUS preset voltages are crazy.
My board is the same, if you set any of the preset oc profiles, your cpu is getting minimum 1.5V.
Also my asus board would deliver 1.6V to the CPU at POST whenever I set any OC before bringing it down to what was set in the BIOS. This was with fixed and offset voltages! I had to manually set the CPU VCORE BOOT VOLTAGE to 1.1V to make sure my cpu wasn't getting zapped every time i started the machine up.

I think your CPU will be fine for short bursts of 1.6V, provided you didnt see that voltage combined with high temperatures (90*C+)

Whoa why would it boot at 1.6v no way! And thanks I will do it manual from now on!

Yes, voltage that high could kill a cpu in minutes, especially if you are stress testing. You probably did some damage to the cpu.

Why would asus allow the auto overvolt to go that high if it can cause damage? That seems strange

Saying that my P9X79 always ran at over 1.3v at stock with my 3930k and I never figured out why, still does it!

First rule of overclocking is never trust auto voltage on anything, never use auto OC on ANY board.

Good news is you probably only did very little damage to CPU.

Instead of needing 1.4 volts to overclock to say 4.3, it will need 1.41. Something like that.

Still, I would buy the intel OC warranty right away on a CPU that expensive if you are going to be pushing volts over 1.4

Thanks I will definitely buy that!

I still got an overclock of 4.3Ghz at 1.3V

Does that mean the few minutes of 1.628V will not have damaged my CPU?

The 1.628 was only for short intervals then it fell back as I watched
