Buying X99 this month....

Give me your opinions. I am not worried about budget for the motherboard, but it will probably not be replaced for half a decade or more. I have had a great experience with AMD and MSI, but AMD is just not competitive anymore. I am currently looking at the MSI Godlike Carbon because Black is sexy and I love MSI, but I also hear good things about EVGA Classifieds... Sound off.

oh, and thanks thumb.gif

I have been very pleased with the 2 X99 Asus Boards I have worked with. Paired with a 5930k and 5820k On the Rampage V and the Asus X99 A motherboards.

Setup is a breeze. I realize that you are leaning toward MSI and have yet to really hear anything bad about them. thumb.gif

Happy Computing.

I like msi and evga almost to the point of fanboyism. You can't go wrong with either choice. My best overclocks have been with MSI and eVGA motherboards. My current 5930k hits 4.7ghz without even trying with my msi x99 Krait edition.

Well, in the overclock department I will stick with the OC Formula, nothing beats that one when we are talking about overclock biggrin.gif

Thanks for the suggestions all. While I do want to get a stable full time oc on, its nothing that will push it to its limit, i just need a good comp that will let me handle everything from 4k editing to modeling to some game design and VM stuff. Right now im on a phenom II 955 and 6950 so I am way past do. From the benchmarks ive seen I dont see a whole lot of reason for the premium price msi has on their godlike carbon, the evgas are sold out, so im open to conversation on asrock, asus strix, and this oc formula, If I do start to factor price in is there a whole lot of difference between the ~$400 players?

I wouldn't go as far as 400USD, it's way too much for any motherboard unless we are talking about server.
A 200$ mobo is just as good, maybe wont have this or that but it doesnt really compensate the extra 200$ for those.

A new one from AR is the X99 Taichi, like someone said, ASrock is pretty good brand and it's not as expensive as others and as reliable if not more than MSI.

Just upgraded to X99 last week, EVGA Micro2 mobo and 6800k with a GTX 1080. OC's to 4.4ghz without breaking a sweat, also got the OCZ RD400 M2 drive and the system just screams.

EVGA has their x99 FTW available on their site right now, can't recommend their boards and gpu's enough.

Excellent experience with my MSI X99A SLI Plus. Has been super reliable, overclocks well, and has pretty impressive features for the price. If you want X99 and have good experience with MSI, the X99A SLI Plus might a good option that won't break the bank.

If you look at major website reviews of this motherboard and its incremental predecessor, it seems there are very few complaints from anyone.

Please don't buy MSI X99A SLi Plus, I have RMA'ed twice and the motherboard is terrible it has a strange red light which doesn't let me boot or post or anything.

Asked every forums I could find and still can't find a solution. Sent for RMA once again. I had it for around 6 months and I was only able to use it for 2~3 weeks, the rest of the time it either didn't worked or was under RMA process

I want to thank everyone for their contribution. I filtered down the MB list to MSI and EVGA and then started filtering based on what I wanted, I ended up with about 4 MSI Boards and 1 EVGA, but none of the MSI board were close to the EVGA price and I hear nothing but good things on EVGA's customer support.

So I have updated my list, you may view it here: HermitDen 2016

My only concern is with the M.2 slot, I have not been involved in hardware for quite some time so the M.2 thing is still new to me. The ssd I chose I am happy with but I do not know if it is "Key m" and I dont know if the MB can handle the 2280 length, I havnt been able to find anything on the specs to tell me exactley. Ill do some more digging but if anyone knows off their head it would be appreciated.

I am starting school so this is primarily for that but I want to build a desk this fall and integrate the computer into it so at some point I will start a build log once I have some designs modeled out. That process has to start once I find a new chair and get dimensions for ergonomics as I want it to be capable of standing as well.

I wont be getting these components until mid September so if anyone one knows of any new product I should keep an eye on let me know.
