I so feel your pain, was same with me, but in the end I got one, quite happy with it, if you can get it to 1400-1450 it ****s bricks over the 1060, but still, restricting people is a wrong choice.
After 24 hours this was already picked up by the internet, so is bad publicity something AMD wants? What is their PR department doing? They should have a huge say in decision like this.
If I where in charge of AMD marketing, hell, I would make a Wattman that can turn a RX 480 into flames, and call it the "Flaming Wattman Edition", irony and humor 2 in one, some people still appreciate company humor. If I want to fry my card, why stop me?
Its my money in the end, and being open to your customers wishes is always a good thing, even if the wishes are of a more extreme nature
I loose 200points of gpu score in firestrike extreme on the 16.7.2 driver if I overclock the ram at all, even to 2050mhz.. so I have no problems with this.

That's due to reduced power availability to the GPU due to increased power consumption from RAM within an already limited power budget. Set power tune to +50% and watch your scores increase significantly.
People are already eating them for only 2250, now they dropped it to 2050MHz. Now everyone will be on them to fix this stupid memory OC limit and raise it to 3K. If someone wants to blow their card they should be allowed to.
I see. It states the QA team is looking into it to determine whether or not it is an issue or intentional. It's still possible that it is intentional. We'll have to wait for an official statement from AMD.

AMD has always set the max mem oc above whats actually possible.
