How would you design an ATX case without drive bays?

Thread Starter
My new build without any 3.5" or 5.25" drives got me thinking about this. Most of the options now involve removing the drive bay cages but don't reduce overall case size.

Personally, I'd like to see a case where the PSU sits in front of the motherboard to reduce overall height, and have a 140mm intake fan below it. I'd also expand the tray behind the motherboard and include brackets there to mount 2 SSDs.

If you want something that saves as much space as possible while still holding ATX parts, I'd do the following:

Put the PSU on its side, hovering over CPU

Liquid cooling for at least CPU, to allow for the required clearance between PSU and CPU. Radiator goes up against the front panel.

Since you mentioned no 3.5 or 5.25 inch bays, I'm assuming you want to either use M.2 drives, or 2.5 inch drives. If 2.5, you can mount those to the back of the mobo tray.

Whole system could be just slightly larger than the ATX motherboard dimensions (including the add in card bracket size) while still supporting all ATX features. Would sure be cramped though.
