Of course I'll always be monitoring 10 in the hope that Microsoft will pull their heads out of their arses and address the fundamental issues it has, and I'll probably keep it on a gaming PC where long-term stability/consistency isn't so important.
No, it's not that. Linux is uncomfortable to use because of software compatibility (mostly games).
Well regular software can run on wine just fine in most cases, even some older games(the last one i tried was runes of magic, it runs on dx9). I really hope that vulkan can broke the monopoly MS currently have or we will be in big trouble...

i wonder though, whats so bad about a decommissioned OS?
even if Win7's support ends by 2020, that doesn't stop some from still using it, much like XP today are still in use on some places.

furthermore security issues can be patched up by 3rd-party apps, so long as they're developed that is.
i mean you could just build an external wall around it, no?

I decided, with the release of this loltastic Anniversay Downgrade to see what had changed in Win Spy, so, I requested a copy from my employer and installed it in VBox. Installation was a little slow due to me not installing it on the SSD but mechanical HD. Win Spy updates for another few hours (literally took hours) and what do I see? Cortana right next to the Start Menu, so, I click on the Start Menu and what do I see? Candy Crush Saga in Enterprise edition? What the hell are those fools thinking at Redmond?????

Not only did they go Simple Jack, they went far beyond Simple Jack. These people are unbelievable. So, I fought with Win Spy to disable Cortana and then gave up and deleted Win Spy.

Candy Crush saga in Enterprise and all that spying in Enterprise... I'm speechless.

The only thing worse would be if they put the Metro UI in a server OS. Oh wait...

With the start of Windows 10, Microsoft's attitude has changed to being Anti-Consumer. They just don't care and have just stopped being passionate about their products. I hate it when we as consumers are made the product.

Windows 10 Pro and lower SKUs give you the fake feeling that we have control but it is just a mere illusion and ultimately, Microsoft has complete control over your PC. It will update, download spam Apps, show spam suggestions, whenever it feels like. Microsoft will also make sure Cortana will get all useless updates in the world because according to them, using Cortana is THE ONLY way to use a PC in the future.

Every year is the year of Linux, But unfortunately, Linux is still stuck in the early 2000s. Huge ego clashes between developers of same team, conflicting design philosophies, non simplified way of doing things will make sure Linux remains the ghetto choice and will never reach mass adoption.

So yeah! I have no option but to pick up a mic and order Cortana to make me some coffee. thumb.gif

I can appreciate your fear but there is much incorrect in what you said it seems like you haven't even bothered to try investigating alternatives.

Linux isn't stuck in the early 2000s. Many of the good UI changes that MS has made in 10 and earlier came from copying Linux ideas. I again fail to see how "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade" to have every program/driver on your system updated is more difficult than having to keep track of updates yourself, uninstall previous versions (on occasion), go to each program's website to download the newest version, run windows update to update the OS, and so on.

If you're not willing to do Linux there's always Mac, BSD, Haiku, and so on.

Once again. Those are only shortcuts to th Windows Store to install said program/game. Candy Crush does indeed have a shortcut in the start menu, which is ridiculous, but it isn't installed. Many others on there are the same way, like minecraft. They are NOT INSTALLED, if you click them that take you to the store and you have the option to install. If you don't want them, just right click the icon in the start menu and click "Unpin from Start Menu". They are then gone and are not and will not automatically install or anything. I do agree that even putting a shortcut to a game install on an enterprise edition is ridiculous but people are being misled or caught up in hyperbole about how windows comes pre-installed with these games when they are not. Two clicks and they are gone. No different than having a shortcut on your desk that takes you to a page to download a game or some other piece of software. Just remove it and it's gone. They were never installed. I've repeated this too many times already which leads me to believe people are going to hear(or see in this case) what they want to see. No matter how many times it's been said.

As far as not being able to remove Defender through the Group Policy Editor, I can only say this is 100% untrue, at least on the enterprise edition. Home and Pro may have had these removed but the last Pro I ran still allowed it.
