I went to a microcenter for the first time on my way cross country, and they had the cpu i was looking at ordering (6800K) for $400, but its $439 or so online at the time. By the time you paid sales tax would that not make it the same price or potentially more?

You just have to look a bit harder. Their CPU pricing is cheaper and add a motherboard to it to further the discount with their $30 off Intel or $40 off AMD.

I can't tell you how many FX 8 core builds I've put together with a decent board for $150 out the door. (CPU+board)

The 5820k is $319 and sometimes it's $299.

In the end you save some money but the best part is having them close by. I've had a few duds and there's no RMA. I just take it back for a refund or exchange.

5820k are cheaper and perform similarly, usually between 300-350
