So I just got a Prometeia Mach I... What can it do?

Thread Starter
I picked up a new Mach I from ebay a few days ago, and i had a few things id like to know about it while it ships.

So, i have a couple of qeustions about the mach I... i know ill probably need to mod the mounting kit for new hardware, anyone done something similar?

Also, what is the best substance for phase change? I know that the mach I can switch to k404 and get a lot colder, is there any other types that would make it run cooler, or is k404 about the limit? I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to how phase change works so i don't really know.

I know the basics of preparing for subzero (insulate, insulate, and insulate, among other things) - any advice?

Last thing for now- what is the value of it? I picked it up for a reasonable price but I'm not sure what it is really worth.

When i do get it set up I'll be testing some newer hardware with it, see how the old thing does. I'm thinking it should be decent, but will post numbers smile.gif

You could have it regassed with r507. That is a pretty standard mod and will improve the load handling characteristics and temperatures. Doing so would require a professional.
It's not worth much. Maybe $100.
Don't expect anything incredible but this is a great rig to learn on.

Yeah, I got it for $150 so not too bad. I figured I'd get used to phase change on it, perhaps make it nicer and then make my own one later or buy a better one.
If i went to an A/C place how much does it usually run for regassing? Like $100 or?

It arrived and needed a recharge badly, so i dropped it off today at a local HVAC place. I explained what it was to them and told them I wanted R404a in it, and it should be done at some point next week.
*if the issue is more than just a recharge i might not fix it up but it looks only to be needing a recharge so

Will update with results of it whenever the prommy gets back biggrin.gif

Did you tell them how much they add a gas (grams)?

If they use common chart to calculate, or just metering pressure i think they cant do it efficient unit and cooling power is far away from optimal (read=maximum).

Its pretty accurate to get a evaporator as cold as it can, or it can be really cold, but unit cant handle it on great temp load.

I also think that old unit cant handle r404a, it can be done with mix-gas and changing also right oil to the unit that can handle a more chilly enviroment.

How did this turn out? Hiikeri is right about the A/C guys maybe not knowing exactly what you need. Hopefully they understand that you need low temps but also sufficient flow so the rig will hold a decent load.

Well the A/C guys I took it to originally don't stock R404... so I'll probably have to get some myself or just bring it to a car place and have them do a R134 fill. Will update smile.gif

What are Prometeia Mach I stock gas? Or what is unit compressor size (cm3)?

Its old, so i think its only R12 gas unit and size is maybe, 5cm3?
