Minimum length wall mount 27" eyefinity

I've got 3 debezeled E2752VH monitors and I'm tired of all the desk space being taken so i started looking for a real triple monitor stand..
Thing is, I'm not that committed to spend $200 on a friggin' stand (I'd rather spend it on a keyboard or HOTAS) so i looked into other methods.

The iron pipe method for around $50 seemed like a great option (seen HEREbut would need to tear into any desk you put it on with the flange or it would need a nice big clunky base. So i looked into wall mounts. Originally looking at making a 2x8 to mount to the studs and then i could stick the mounts at even spacing wherever on the board i needed. However...

If you live in the US, your wall studs are most likely 16" apart on interior walls

With 27" monitors and a set of 3 wall mounts that reach at LEAST 12.75" (example: Articulating LED LCD TV Monitor Wall Mount) you can get at least a 140* triple monitor setup, picture of my maths and stuff shown here:

given that the mounts have an arm length of 14.5 there's room to increase the angle or move out the monitors from the wall another inch or so.
This knocks the price down from a $45-50 iron pipe deal to a $33
Monitors can be placed flat against the wall but will have a 3.5" gap between the three monitors, but that's not why we get eyefinity is it?
Smaller monitors can be mounted the same, but will have larger gaps when flat

that was originally the plan, but i had time to burn so i wanted to see if the board was necessary at all. Turns out it's not with my setup at least. Adding a board and having it look right also adds another 2" out and possible flexing compared to just slapping the mounts into the studs.
