What games simply won't run on two threads? - Page 3

Thread Starter

Since you wanted to still talk bout it, and this is my last post since you've brought my original post wayyyy off topic and are trying to argue. AMD is known for releasing trashy drivers with there new cards, Nvidia isn't. Perhaps the reason AMD drivers get so much better is cause they start off being terrible. And I'm on a believe YouTube reviews before I'll believe a written post with no video evidence. Sure if you test the RX480 in an AMD driven game like Hitman it'll outdo the 1060, but in other games the 1060 out does it anywhere between 5-25%. Remember the whole thing bout RX480s frying people's motherboard when it first came out then AMD finally admitted it was a fault in the drivers and fixed it? So yeah, you keep hanging on to the red team, but there's a reason AMD is struggling financially and it's not cause they make the best products my friend lol also if I'm not mistaking I've heard the site you linked isn't that reliable so may wanna find a new source of info, just saying.

That being said the RX480 does currently run better with newer API, as it shows up in this benchmark, but not many games are currently running these new APIS and Nvidia has announced that its support will continue to get better.

These are simply the most popular benchmarks. I agree if your around the $200 market the RX480 is a great choice but you'd be ignorant to believe that it can outrun the 1060. Nonetheless have a good day.

Nobody's board got fried. It was Reddit sensationalism. Most of the burnt board proof was fabricated (and I personally know people who did it just to prove how unreliable of a source Reddit is for such things).

You seem to be against AMD for the completely wrong reasons. Yeah the 1060 is the faster card right now, but the reasons you use to diss the 480 are absolute bollocks.

On the actual processor topic, forget about a dual core/dual thread processor. Really, don't even think about it. This isn't 2008 anymore.

The guy who posted claiming the 480 killed his board was outright lying. He claimed he had an intake fan at the front and the back of the case. He didn't have any fans, he was relying on faith for air to move through that case. His HD cage was totally bend out of shape and broken and his whole system was a disaster. Not having the funds to buy a 100 USD case is not an excuse, my previous case was a Gamemax 30 USD case that could fit fans at the front, bottom, back and top (6 fans in total). Anyone looking at his case would clearly see he either quickly put that system together to discredit the launch of AMD's amazingly successful GPU or he was a total fool and he killed his system himself then tried to blame AMD.

As for the 480 being out of spec, so is every single 9xx video card made by nVidia. Even the 950 and 960 overdraw from the PCI-E port but nobody's complaining, thus the whole point was to discredit AMD. Fortunately it didn't work. I am certain my 290 is overdrawing but I couldn't care less as it won't do any harm.

Last but not least anyone who still recommends dual cores, even for budget gaming should be reprimanded and then banned if they keep giving such awful advice. A lot of games now simply either won't run on dual cores or they run so badly you wished you didn't have friends like this. The absolute minimum for gaming should be an i3 (even older ones are better than the best dual core) or an FX6300. It simply isn't possible to clock a dual core high enough to compensate for its lack of cores and even the FX4300 is better than any dual core.

For certain tasks a dual core is perfect. For example I have a low power dual core in my file server (2.7GHz 45W) but that's a file server, not a gaming machine.

A fx8 with 480 is both cheaper and faster in newer games than a Pentium + 1060. Esp if any streaming or multitasking.
