Upgrade from 290 at 1080p

Thread Starter
So I have a tri-x 290 and a OEM 290 in another PC. Is there any reason to upgrade at 1080p?

I use i7 3770k @ 4.5 + tri-x 290 @ 1080p and my wife has i5 4670k 4.4 + OEM 290 @ 1680*1050. I guess these setups will max 1080p for a few more years?

At worse I can put the tri-x and OEM 290 in my i7 and a 280x in the wife's

Considering I'm happy with a 290x for the majority of games at 4k you will be plenty fine at 1080p for a while, let alone if you go with two 290's in crossfire down the road.

I want a 1080 or even 480 but feel it's just wasting money. I want a 5820k but see no need.

AMD cards age the best, just like wine, they keep gaining performance constantly compared to previous drivers, and if you want more performance you can mod your 290 BIOS Into a 390 card, giving you 12 to 18% more performance, and if you're lucky and have disabled cores in your 290 you could enable them with a 390X BIOS, which can raise performance up to 25%.

You can still gain 15% performance using the 390 BIOS though.
