The PSU you picked is overkill and its also way overpriced and there are lots of options that are both better and cheaper then the Corsair AXi you picked

Unless you are going to have two video cards all you need is a good 550 watt PSU, as for options forget about the AXi its a ripoff and the EVGA SuperNova G2/P2 and the Corsair RMx are better as well as way cheaper

Same story with the CPU cooler its overrated overhyped overpriced loud and unreliable and the Noctua NH-D15 (just to name one) is better cheaper more quiet and more reliable
If you dont like Noctua there is also Phanteks / Be Quiet / Thermalright and Cryorig coolers to pick from.

Edit: same story with the case so take a look at Phanteks and see if you like one of their cases

Phanteks makes a few white cases. The Enthoo Pro is a rather robust full tower for a really competitive that completely disassembles.

I don't see why the motherboard color is that important since it's to be covered up by several things, but limiting your motherboard choice by color really cuts down your options. I would think having a black motherboard would contrast nicely with the rest of the build and help other components stand out. It sounds like you really want everything else to stand out.

If you want to overclock a 6-core processor, you can do that with your current motherboard. I think EVGA X58 motherboards required a mod for hexacore support though. If gaming is your primary concern, you'll want to go Z170. You haven't really said what you want to do with system other than spend a lot of money.

NO !! Single faster card is a better option than going sli route, not to mention maxwell is already in legacy state atm. But at the same time Pascal is plagued by that latency issue, so it's a hard choice to make.

I suggest buying cheaper stop gap gpu like the RX 480 and upgrade later when vega or volta arrive.

The 760T is indeed a beauty, but the Phanteks Eclipse P400S glacier white looks nice also and quite cheap, but somewhat limited in the drive bay section. I would've bought one, but it didn't available months ago when I wanted to change my case.

Im actually starting to research more and more on the hexacore idea, maybe upgrading graphics and going that route, im still not 100% on the fact if the evga x58 is able to or not. I just cant believe the x58 is still going that strong i havent really looked into it till today. I Also am in disbelief that my 920 is still running at 4.2ghz for the last 8 years with no hiccups. But after seeing benchmarks on the x5660 its really got me thinking. Do you have a link or any info where i can find if a mod is needed for the board im currently using.

It appears revisions 1.0 and 1.1 won't work with the mod, but revision 1.2 will. source

My X58 is still performing fantastic, I have also installed a GTX 1070 a month ago and it's running great with my cpu.
I run ssd's in my system, that helped lots.
system specs in sig.

For double the power consumption and similar performance to a 1080? No, just camp nowinstock.com and get a EVGA 1080(or MSI, but they are generally more expensive) when they are avliable. a Latency hotfix driver is already out and probably more fix will be in the next WHQL driver.

On the nvidia forums it seems people with X58 systems are not having the DPC issue.
I do not have it and never have since I installed my 1070 July 2.
Don't know why except they Think it has something to do with pci-e 3.0 vs pci-e 2.0

Thanks for the info - been holding off replacing my GTX 760SLI setup with a single GTX1070 because of the reported issues - good to know it isn't affecting x58 smile.gif
