[Various] New Pokémon Go app update actually REMOVES two key features

One of the key features of the game is the tracking system, designed to show how close Pokemon are to your location. As you move around, the number of footprints change to show if you’re getting closer or further from your target.

The 0.31.0 update actually removes these icons - leaving users baffled as to how to track down their prey. It remains unclear whether the order in which Pokemon are displayed is either accurate or in realtime.

Yesterday, Pokémon Go received a new update that, among other things, got rid of the “footsteps” mechanic that alerted players of how far away other monsters were spawning. The mechanic, as it existed before the update, became the source of much frustration because it inaccurately displayed every single critter at the maximum distance—making it nearly impossible to track down specific monsters.

The only joy of playing this game after u pass about level 5 was hunting down new poke'mon based on their position on your chart and number of footprints. Which is no longer possible.

You do realize it didn't work, right? Everything was 3 footprints away.

it did for a long time.
not only that, but you could track poke'mon by location on the nearby chart with top left being closest and bottom right being furthest. When you got them close enough the 3 footprint became a 2, and from that point they were <600m away.

they had an optional update that broke it a few weeks back, but if you put it off it worked fine. Until about 2 weeks ago when the game stopped working if not updated, and at that point it no longer worked for anyone. 3 step glitch is what it is refereed to above.

i had high hopes for this game, but when they responded by saying they were going to start focusing on adding trading... i knew it wouldn't be long.
source: http://www.sportsrageous.com/gaming/pokemon-go-updates-new-features-that-players-will-love/38038/

i understand trading is a key feature of most pokemon games, but a game that is 99% about hunting them down shouldn't be able to be beaten in one day by trading friends.

I was fine with shutting pokevision down, but to do that and remove their own tracking feature at same time was absurd.

edit: realized this made it sound as if the trading being implemented happened after they removed these features in response, but that is not the case. trading was announced a while before this all. hopefully they cut any development on this and repair the game for now.

you misunderstand

in a world where there is 57,308,738 square miles of land being able to somewhat track poke'mon starting at about 1/2 mile away from you should not be called easy.

For people that don't live near places like Central Park with many pokestops, increasing the difficulty to catch wild Pokemon is definitely going to suck. I'm running really low on pokeballs, not because I'm missing my throws but because they constantly break out and run away.

Word. When a CP 120 Caterpie busts out of a great ball, I knew that update janked with the difficulty. Near empty on pokeballs myself.
