My machoke is level 469 also caught at that level like totally lame.
Plenty of stories like that to go around. It's even better with a group of people around you as most of the time ( in my experience) I tend to get the lower cp Pokemon than those who are below my level. Adversely, those same people get a low cp Pokemon every once in a while, as I get a high one.

Just save up all your dust until you get a higher level. I didn't even bother using mine until I was like lvl 17. By then I could start kicking on gyms and gaining XP that way.

As far as high CP Pokemon it becomes more common the higher you level up. Plus when you evolve your Pokemon at a later level the % is increased. For instance that growlithe I showed earlier evolved to a 2026 Arcanine (or there abouts).

Ive caught a 72cp venusaur. The other day I finally got a snorlax and he was only 870, super disappointed there.
I'm level 22 now. Highest cp wild pokemon that I've caught so far are 1221 starme, several 1100+ pincers highest is 1178, an 1100 something tangela, a 1001 tangela, and 2 pidgeots that are just under 1100. I did get a 1325 electabuzz out of a 10km egg the other day.

While I caught higher cp pokemon, more pincers and tangelas, my most exciting catches from this evening were an 827 scyther, a 355 onyx, a 612 and 614 psyduck, and finally, a 618cp/68hp bellsprout. I've got 238 bellsprout candies but haven't been able to catch one worth evolving. The 600+ bellsprouts always run away. Now just waiting till I use my lucky egg to go ham on evolutions again.

As someone above said, zubats are the devil. I just walk past them anymore. Lmao

This is what i have, only level 18 ('ve been playing for weeks) as i live in rather suburban area and spawns in general are crap.
On other hand escape rate is so much worse with new update 0.31.0 if it is going to stay like it is now i'll probably wont spend a dime on game especially with crappy spawns/tracker removed etc.

3 laps around the local park and I have over 200 poke balls so that's $10 saved in pokeballs for about $1 per mile walked lol. The tracker worked up until their first shadow update not too long ago... Then it only displayed the 3 feet. Before, the closest Pokémon on the tracker with 1 foot actually meant it was super close to you. Afterwards, I'd be searching randomly for a dratini in a grid filled with 9 pkmn within a 3 mile radius. We'd be in the park like omg there's a *rare Pokémon* nearby! *circles entire Park* did anyone find the rare? Fortunately the community is really nice and people will truthfully tell you where Pokémon are. Then tracker sites got big and that added a new dimension to it. People spoof their GPS like crazy now but that hasn't stopped a Lotta people from still playing the game around here...and my town sucks compared to the amount of Pokémon in Santa Monica pier 2 hours away. The only benefit from this is now a bunch of friends are always bugging to go to the beach every weekend thumb.gif

Different pokemon have different multipliers for evolution. That said you need a pretty high base pokemon for that to matter.
For instance a 600cp eevee can evolve into a 1200-1260 jolteon, 1482-1489 flareon, or a 1578-1638 vaporeon. Or a 600 exeggcute evolves into a 1620-1908 exeggcutor.

pogotoolkit.com is helpful in that respect. Also use the pokemon iv rater from the silphroad to see if a pokemon is even worth evolving.

Edit: At level 11 your best bet is to horde candies, then use a lucky egg and evolve pokemon you catch frequently. Don't spend any dust till you're level 20+ and don't evolve anything you don't catch frequently. If you've saved enough candies and have enough of the corresponding pokemon to evolve, you can get 50-60k xp during a lucky egg.

Edit 2: I just had a 1081 blastoise run away after getting out of 6 ultra balls. =(

Honestly when I am going for really basic pokemon, if the break out more than once or twice, I just leave...

I'm over this game already. I think finally getting into battling did it for me. That whole half of the game is awful. I wish it was more turn based like the original games, so you could think about strategy/when to bring out opposing type Pokemon/etc.

If they do come out with a new game I'll definitely be interested. I want story/skill/ not spamming a touchscreen.
