This post could end with you getting a free PC.

My friend and I have been working for the last (No joke) 4 months on facilitating a sizable donation to freegeekchicago.org, a wonderful NFP organization dedicated to teaching PC skills, and earning free computers.

The PCs donated came from the biggest Science Museum in Chicago and have an estimated value of $23,000.00. The following video is not monetized in any way, no commercials and we are not making any money off it. It was strictly voluntary on our own time, and 100% charity.

We were just there to spot the PC's that were to be recycled, get permission from both NFP orgs, and since we already volunteer at Free Geek, I started the ball rolling to get those computers into the hands of people who need them, but might not be able to afford them.

By the way, do we have a charity section here that I missed? If so mods, I apologize; and it would be really cool to have one for those of us involved in tech charity, and a great way to get that Overclock.net name out there, because you guys are the raddest!

The way to get a free computer at FreeGeekChicago, is to earn points by volunteering. They teach you how computers work, how to break them down, and finally how to work them, so the whole time you are learning PCs, you are also earning points toward your free computer.

If you want a PC to do some ludicrous experiment on, ie trying to melt something with it, or something weird like that, this would be the place to get your PC. They come with Linux installed, and are completely refurbished. They are older, of course, but if you just need an internet station, they're all you need. Plus they also sell PC components (It's a Not For Profit organization so all the money goes back into improving their several programs, and paying rent.) Thanks for the read, PM me if you'd like any more information on how to get involved in tech charity, or have any ideas for helping give back. Thanks for reading this LONG thing.smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

As someone that has volunteered my time over the past 10+ years at freegeekpenn in pa i must say its good cause for anyone looking to do some volunteer work or looking to earn a free computer. Or just to get rid of that old E-Waste in a clean way with less environmental impact. So find your local freegeek and volunteer your time.

neat, there is a freegeek in Toronto. They only have a few laptops for sale, but interesting idea for sure +1

I did all my high-school volunteer hours doing computer recycling, so I applaud the effort.

Yeah, it's funny. It started here in Chicago but the one in Toronto is bigger and more well known.
