Best voltage settings for a 4790K at 4.4Ghz ???

Hi ,

I want to lower Core Voltage to make my 4790K at 4.4Ghz run cooler , and I need some advice ...
What Cpu Core voltage should I use ??
With current bios settings cpu z says 1.240 ..
In bios ( asus maximus v2 Hero ) I have in ai overcloack the XMP memory profile loaded ( 2400 Mhz , 11 - 13 -13 - 31 ) , Core Ratio -> Sync All cores and everything else to auto .
In auto mode CPU Core Voltage is 1.120 and CPU Cache Voltage from 1.233 to 1.242 .. I forgot to say my cpu cooler is Corsair H100i v2 and I run Corsair link in quiet mode ..
With these settings enabled after running XTU stress test for 10 min the max temp I saw in one core was 74 Celsius ...
I don't want to go above 4.4Ghz - with than in mind - should I lower Cpu core voltage to achive better temps or it is not needed thinking.gif??

I have mine running at 4.5 on 1.139v right now and its rock solid. Since every chip is different and requires different settings you will have to play around with it to get it where you like it.

If you are rock solid stable at that clock and voltage, then there is room to go down. Set the core voltage to manual and bump it down with the smallest increment until you get a crash, freeze, blue screen, ect. Then go up and test for stability. Takes a while but I think you will be happy with the result.

When I was using the stock cooler I was able to get away with 4.2 at 1.1v, So try maybe 1.15v and go from there?

So I will try to decrease from 1.24 to 1.23-> 1.22 -> 1.21 .. etc until blue screen ??

Should I lower Cpu Cache Voltage also ???

What a about Memory Voltage ??? Should I let it in auto mode and let the memory XMP profile do the job ??

You can start with that yeah, or whatever the minimum is for you motherboard. My minimum is 0.005, so I would decrease by that every time, till I had issues, then go up, if it seemed stable I would do a long stress test and bingo, you have found it.

Not sure about cache, I haven't messed with it.

For memory, I wouldn't use XMP, just set it manually to the timings and voltage that the manufacturer said it will run at.

always want to lower voltage as low as possible for better chip life. Take the time smile.gif You will thank me if it lasts longer biggrin.gif

So results time .. With EIST , C1E ,C3/C4 , Turbo Boost , XMP memory profile at 2400Mhz enabled , and CPU Ratio at Sync All Cores Value and everything else to auto mode below I will

write the values of Cpu Core Voltage Override and the result - Keep in mind that the Cpu Cache Voltage Override left at auto mode .

All Cores Sync at 4.4 Ghz.

CPU Core Voltage Override
> Windows log in
> XTU CPU Stress Test

1. 1.200
> YES
> 10MIN ( MAX Core Package Temp = 70 - 72 Celsius )
2. 1.190
> YES
> 10MIN ( MAX Core Package Temp = 70 - 72 Celsius )
3. 1.180
> YES
> BOSD during stress test
4. 1.170
> YES
> At 1OMIN test system freeze at 6min
5. 1.150
> Boot Failed BSOD

Let me say that the cpu core voltage in auto mode was 1.240 and the XTU Cpu strees test at 10min time gave me max core package temp 74 celsius ...

So with that results what do you say ??? Do I have to change Cpu Cache Voltage Override also for better results or should leave core voltage in auto mode in the end ??

The temp difference was only 2 degrees after dropping the core voltage .... thinking.gifthinking.gif

Hmm, figured it would be more. If it is stable, I would rock it. Is that the average or the peak temp? I bet it is peak, CPUs bounce all over the place, and after initial load usually drop down a few degrees.
