Am I limiting power to my GPU / going to start a fire?

I have a 980strix with custom bios, it has 6pin and 8 pin connectors. My PSU came with 8 pin to dual 6+2pin cables. From my knowledge a single 8 pin has a maximum rating of 150watts and 6+2 pins also have a maximum of 150watt regardless if your using the extra 2 pins or not (because the extra 2 pins are just grounds). To me it seems like I am trying to draw 300W out of the single 8 pin connector. Is this dangerous? Should I be using two independent cables? (my PSU only came with the dual 6+2 pin cables)

If it's the cable that came with your PSU, will be fine. If not, you may fry some hardware. The cable will be rated for more than the amps that will be drawn by the two connectors.
