If you are coming from a previous flagship, you never spend the full amount. You almost always get around half back after resale, this case it was a little bit less because the 1070 was so good. I tend to upgrade to the newest flagship every year, before resale goes to nothing.

So for me, this card was about $850 and it's getting about 50-80% (depending on title) over my current Titan. That's worth it to me.

true. haha

when the full fat 3840 cuda core TitanTitan XX PascalPascal comes out in a few months people are going to say "phew 1200$. much cheaper than I thought. The last Titan X pascal was 1200$ and actually worse. This is actually a good deal. Looks like a steal to me. Thanks Nvidia for being loyal to your costumers smile.gif "

Wasn't GP102 supposed to be a large die?

This is pretty disappointing for a Titan launch. This should have been the 1080 Ti. It probably will be, I guess, but it's never been so obvious that the "Titan" line is just forcing rational consumers to wait longer for the same product they're used to getting in a certain timeline at a certain price. This is NV taking the time to harvest the crop of high-yield moron consumers they've created with their Apple-esque marketing over the last few years.

It'd be fine, if it wasn't directly effecting the experience of regular buyers. This staggered launch garbage takes every remaining ounce of enjoyment out of their new GPU releases. AMD needs to get it's market share up to put some pressure on; this is ridiculous.

I heard its a bit better on GTA Online in most areas but yeah. I get below 30 fps in the yacht with a single 1080. I get 40ish fps outside of certain intensive areas I guess and I am hoping a 30-40% increase will bring a more smoother experience. GTA is visual stunning with MSAA for sure. Also extreme performance hog.

I should actually play the campaign. I know it have a great story.....

If he doesn't rock 8x MSAA he will I think. When I was on 3440x1440, 8x MSAA in GTA V halved my frames. At 4K, it just eats my current titan for breakfast.

I take it than you meant you noticed an increase in smoothness because taken alone, this would be an archetypal presentation of microstutter. Doubling frame rate without a corresponding increase in smoothness means something is wrong.

You don't notice microstutter so much as you notice a lack of improvement.

There is overt stutter, and that is a very different experience from microstutter. Microstutter is when SLI/CFX is working but the frames from the additional GPUs are falling close enough to the one's before/after them that the extra frame may as well not exist. At higher frame rates, it may be hard to tell that anything is wrong at all, while at lower frame rates motion just isn't as smooth as one would expect for the reported frame rate.

But in gaming it showing more than that probably because it has 50% higher memory bandwith. Also, titan X has uncut 96rops (at stock speed it has about 33% more rops power than GTX 1080)

Fill rate is almost certainly more of a limiting factor than shader power in most games at 4k.

It is, it's just not the largest die and the designation implies as much.

Releasing the upper-mid-range die first makes them more money. That's why they do it and will likely continue to do so. I don't think they care how much anyone enjoys their product releases as long as they continue to buy the product.

The only 4K solutions that make sense to me right now are:
- 2x 1080 ($1400) - SLI may not scale well in some games, making 4K performance subpar in those titles.
- 1x Titan X ($1200) - Consistent performance in all titles

The price sucks, I wish it was $1000, but I already sold my old Titan and the card is "only" $850 for me after that.

Yep Im right there with you on options. I have been having to lower my game settings to medium ever since I upgraded to a 4K monitor and I have been wanting a proper solution ever since. I dont like SLI and want a single card (plus with SLI I cant make use of my 10 gigabit network), and this is finally a card that can play things alright at high/ultra settings. Im sure by this time next year there will be plenty more options for cheaper, but I dont want to wait yet another year.
