That's a way over-simplistic way of looking at it. You can't make any claims about aliasing based on "4k" in isolation. 4K at 40" would suffer almost exactly the same aliasing as 2560x1440 at 27".

And even talking smaller, higher density monitors, I still think AA is important.

I don't doubt that AA has value to many users at all resolutions, but the higher the resolution the less impact AA has on visual fidelity. This has been main stay ever since we started seeing resolution becoming a standard metric for visual quality. The need for AA and resolution has been intrinsically tied to each other, now I agree field of view plays a factor for AA benefits at higher resolutions. The general statement that higher resolutions reduces the need for AA is a valid statement and has been for years. I of course agree that there is more to the equation than this, but I'm also willing to bet that most 4K users either don't use AA or use it in very limited amounts. It would be nice to see a comparison test ran sometime to be honest.

I personally haven't used AA since 1440p simply because of the processing cost.

And yet I can't play games at 1440p if AA isn't turned on. Looking at a game like GTA 5 without AA vs. 4x TAA/TXAA....is just night and day. I understand saying it's a costly feature. But it's the difference between a game looking like a game, and a game looking like a cinematic experience. No matter what your resolution or DPI, look at fences in any game (like the fence in the GTA 5 pic below), and it just ruins everything.

Assuming that all else is equal (like viewing distance), AA on a 110PPI 4k monitor has exactly the same visual impact as AA on any other 110PPI monitor.

Does 4K@27" mean less perceived aliasing vs 2560x1440@27"? Of course. Does 4K@40" mean less perceived aliasing vs 2560x1440@27"? No.

"4K" on it's own is meaningless when talking about aliasing or the need for antialiasing.

Your statement "the higher the resolution the less impact AA has on visual fidelity" is only true if the display size is always the same. Think about it.

AA is important on a 139+ dpi monitor(32(31.5)", 28" have 157 dpi)? Do you have IQ OCD and must examine screenshots to nitpick about details?

There was an interview with a guy from AMD talking about that. He said you need 8k-16k, depending on your eyes, monitor to see perfect edges, so no AA needed. He didn't mention size of the monitor, but I guess it doesn't matter rly.

1) I'm sorry, I thought I was posting on an enthusiast forum.
2) The examples I was using were ~110PPI
3) "Important" is vague and subjective, but If you can't easily perceive aliasing on monitors with >139PPI at normal monitor viewing distances, then I'd recommend an eye check.
